Somewhere down in the depths of my soul, there’s a still, small voice telling me that I should not find this Star Wars VII: The Force Finally Wakes Up (Though We’re Still Not Quite Sure Why It Went To Sleep In The First Place) teaser trailer-related tweet as amusing as I do.
Don’t worry. I told that still, small voice to shut up.

I kid (or at least I appreciate the kidding of others) because I love. And I actually have a bit more love for this past Friday’s teaser than I was expecting. As someone who considers JJ’s blockbusters a bit underwhelming, and as someone who actively disliked the “last” three Star Wars films — using “scare quotes” for the term “last,” since they were actually “first” …if they’d “actually existed,” that is — I was surprised by my (mostly positive) response to the trailer.
Afterwords, I reflected on the fact that I’d watched it with the boys, and their enthusiasm may have influenced my response. Just a bit. Because the room pretty much erupted every time I played the 1:30-snippet. And yes, I played it more than once. (No, I won’t say how many times. Too scary.)
Not that I’m complaining, though. That’s one of the things I love most about them. Because without the wide-eyed enthusiasm and joy with which they view things like this (and the world as a whole), I’d probably be a full-blown cynic by now.
This wonderful little sketch from Philly sports cartoonist Rob Tornoe pretty much sums things up for me.
