A Lenten Musical Journey, Day 12

A Lenten Musical Journey, Day 12

Gretschaninov A.T postcard-1910.jpgHeading back to Thursday’s entry for just a second, here’s the aforementioned Alexander Grechaninov’s “Behold the Bridegroom” from his aforementioned Passion Week. I saved it for Sunday to so as to offend our H-Word sensibilities as little as possible.

Gorgeous. (The whole thing is not to be missed, actually.)

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Behold the Bridegroom comes in the middle of the night:
and blessed the servant whom He shall find watching
but unworthy is he whom He shall find in slothfulness.
Beware, then, O my soul, and be not overcome by sleep.
lest thou be given over to death and shut out from the Kingdom
But return to soberness and cry aloud:
Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, O God. Through Mother of God have mercy upon us.
