Show Notes
The Supreme Court ruled that some members of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission were hostile towards the baker’s religion.
Interestingly, those members who were hostile toward religion have biblical precedent. The prophets, the Psalms, and Jesus all showed a hostility toward religion. The prophets claimed that God wasn’t interested in religious practices of sacrifice, but was more concerned about justice for those on the margins of culture. The Psalms claim that God doesn’t smell the sacrificial offerings, but would rather justice be served. Jesus claimed that God doesn’t desire sacrificial offerings, but mercy for all people.
The Bible is often hostile towards religion that excludes by creating an us against them mentality. Christians should be the first people to bake cakes for those with whom we might disagree. Christians should be the first to open our society and our neighborhoods to the immigrant. We should be the last people to ever think tearing parents and their children apart is ever a good idea.
