I used to write a lot of poetry when I was younger (don’t we all? lol). That has morphed into a couple of poems and perhaps a few songs a year. Well more specifically lyrics that are put into songs by Nathaniel Johnstone, because trust me, you don’t want to hear me sing.* The poems tend to focus around the experience of being a Witch, while the songs play around with mythology and folklore.

Anyway, if you’re a regular around here, you may have noticed an increase in video content. I feel it adds another level of experience and interaction than just a blog post along. Through video, you see and hear me – adding perhaps a little more context and inflection to your experience. And especially during this time of quarantine and social distancing, a little more human contact – even if it’s virtual – can definitely be helpful. Whether that’s a virtual ritual performance or a shared dance experience.
So it’s within this vein I asked folks if they would be interested in me reading some of my poems, and I was blown away by the response. Here is the first poem, which was originally posted on this blog about 2 years ago. I’ve also taken the time to make sure that the CC is correct, for those of you who may be hard of hearing and/or prefer the option to both hear and see the words simultaneously.
I thought this was a good poem to start with, because sometimes we can all use a reminder about who we are and what we do.
I’ll likely do another poem over the weekend. Also, while I have reduced my online workshop offerings this month (I’m working on finishing up the second draft of my next book, so a lot of energy is going into that), I’ve got two more workshops in May on Thursday evenings – Sigil Witchery on 5/21 and Weave the Liminal on 5/28. You can register for those workshops here. I’m also still doing a weekly Zoom experience with my Patreon supporters.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy! (links to songs, btw, are after the video)
