A little kid teaches mom to pray

There are lots of good reads in this week’s Cotillion round up, but this one is my favorite.

I’m still new to all of this, myself. And while I’ve come to a greater understanding and appreciation of Christianity, I still have a few doubts and questions of my own that keep me from feeling completely at ease with it. But seeing Zane so proudly cradling his “Bible” in his arms touched my heart beyond belief.

And so it was that, for the first time in my life as a Mom…I showed Zane how to pray.

I felt a bit awkward, and I groped for words that felt strange coming from my mouth, but my own wonderful son prompted me when I faltered.

“Dear God…thanks for Magga and Papaw and…and…”

“And fiewoks?” ”

“…and fireworks, and, um…”

“…and Unnahfoot?”

Getting into the spirit of things, “…yep, and Underfoot!”

“And big fie twucks and twash twucks and propane twucks!”

“Yep! Those too! And…”

“…and Papaw boat!”

“And Papaw’s boat, and Daddy at work…”

“Daddy working!” he nods knowingly, “And Mama here!”

I’ve had lots of adults tell me they have difficulty praying, particularly in thanksgiving, because they “can’t really think of all the things I’m grateful for…I mean, my family, my house…my job…what else is there?”

Little Zane knows the answer! There are FIRETRUCKS! And BUMBLEBEES! And BOATS! And PUPPIES!

Childlike faith. If you’ve got it, you’re doubly blessed! You’ll want to read the whole thing.
