George Will has a new column up, and it should be read as a warning to the Democrats but I don’t know if they will heed it.
Toward the end, Will writes something that I had been thinking this morning as well – that the out-of-control Dems, increasingly wagged by the tail of the extreme left – are going to complicate things for Hillary Clinton, and that if she is smart, she will get out before these folks and tell them to knock it off.
If Hillary were as smart as her supporters are always saying, she’d be speaking out against the political theater in Crawford outside Walter Reed Hospital and speaking in favor of the troops she someday hopes to lead…but I suspect that somewhere deep in Mrs. Clinton’s heart, all of this is exciting to her, a throwback to the glory days, and she cannot bring herself to criticize them. She’ll remain silent, which is what she always does when she is playing things safe…which is what she is always playing, come to think of it.
She should be in front of this story, urging these folks to find a better way to express themselves – she should be showing leadership. Instead, she’s silent. Silence usually implies consent, so it is not too far-fetched to believe that on some level this Presidential Wannabee is…very likely… cheering them on. If she is, if she allows her enthusiasm to relive Vietnam to overwhelm her political ambition…she could screw herself and those ambitions in the long run.
