He gets it. Al Gore understands Iraq’s connection to terrorism and Saddam’s murderous ambitions. He gets the connection between Iraq and the Achille Lauro! He really, really hates Iraq and Saddam. He’s aware of the dangers of Iraqi interests in nuclear weapons! Al Gore gets the danger of Saddam Hussein!
Or, he did, once upon a time. Watch the tape, before it is taken down.
As I have said before:
…it was the policy of the United States ever since 1998 – under Bill Clinton – we established the Iraq Liberation Act in which we stated our intention to depose Saddam Hussein, not only because he’d tried to assassinate an American President (remember? – scroll down the link) but because we believed, the world believed, everyone believed – St. Bill Clinton, and his holy chorus believed – that Saddam had a huge stockpile of WMD, and in a post 9/11 world…any president – ANY president – would have been stupid, foolhardy, irresponsible and remiss NOT to go after Saddam Hussein.
…President Bush went to the UN and talked about much more than WMD as a reason to liberate Iraq. He laid out NUMEROUS reasons, completely SPELLED THEM OUT based on the intelligence he had – intelligence, btw, which Mrs. Clinton said in 2003 was “consistant with what we saw in the White House” back when she and Bill were co-presiding…
1. Iraq’s government openly praised the September 11th attacks on America
2. Iraq shelters and supports terrorist organizations
3. Saddam Hussein has an appetite for nuclear weapons
4. Saddam likely possesses biological and chemical weapons
5. Saddam’s repression of the Iraqi people
6. Saddam’s Abuse of Children
7. Violence against women
8. Iraq has not returned prisoners
9. Saddam possesses prohibited missiles
10. Weapons inspectors have been shut out of Iraq for four years
And once again, If a President Clinton had taken out Saddam, liberated these people and helped them install a democratic government, we’d be hearing stories about great humanitarianism and whether or not he (or she) should be added to Mt. Rushmore.
A while back I wondered how it had suddenly come about that the “abandonment of the Iraqi people” by the Bush 41 administration has suddenly become “sound policy” to 21st Century Democrats. Never made sense to me.
Al Gore, while he was vice-president, he couldn’t do much to address Saddam Hussein, and President Clinton didn’t do much, either, so far as we know. But Gore certainly appreciated the threat from Iraq early on, and he clearly wanted to do something about it, too, doesn’t it sound like it in that tape? When he laid out all of the evils of the Iraqi regime, I know he wasn’t playing on our fears! He was prescient!
Hmmm…prescient! Maybe I should start listening to him and his friends about “manmade” global warming?
Ummmmm…nahhhh, not yet. In ten years he might be saying something totally different. And btw, I supported that Al Gore, too, and thought he was the strong addition to the Clinton ticket, at the time.
Welcome Instapundit readers! While you’re here please look around. Today we’re also discussing when and why I left the Democrats and we’re taking a sort of silly but fun timewasting personality test.
