My birth father was easy to buy for; books, paints (he was a very amateur, and messy artist).
My Father in Law, whom I adore, is the most difficult man in the world to buy anything for. Clothes? He wears the same things all the time, so whatever I buy him ends up in my husband’s closet. Books? He’s not into them. Hobby Kits? Enough with that, please. I knew we were done with those when we gave him a kit to build a ship in a bottle and…it ended up in my husband’s closet.
But last year, I hit on the perfect gift for Pop, and he knows exactly what he’s getting this year: a subscription to Mystic Monk Coffee. Yeah, a whole subscription; he gets his monthly fix of liquid crack (decaf, of course) and is very happy; we finally give him something he really loves.
I’d have gone for the gift card, Mystic Monk Coffee but Dad hates having to go on the interwebz, and his tastes are not very exotic; he is not interested in trying new blends or flavors, so the Decaf Columbian suits him fine.
But it’s sort of boring to just give someone a subscription; nothing to open up! So I’ll hand him a pack of the Dominican Sisters gloriously coffee-scented Java-soap. While the pot’s perking, he can anticipate his java in the shower!
