What? Obama "may support" drilling?

Oh, this is just a day of riches!

The Headline: “Obama Shifts, says he may back offshore drilling”.

A better headline, perhaps, in light of today’s festivities in Congress might be, “Under the Bus Goes the Pelosi”

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Friday he would be willing to support limited additional offshore oil drilling if that’s what it takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos and develop alternate energy sources.

Shifting from his previous opposition to expanded offshore drilling, the Illinois senator told a Florida newspaper he could get behind a compromise with Republicans and oil companies to prevent gridlock over energy.

“My interest is in making sure we’ve got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices,” Obama said in an interview with The Palm Beach Post.

Asked about Obama’s comment, McCain said, “We need oil drilling and we need it now offshore. He has consistently opposed it. He has opposed nuclear power. He has opposed reprocessing. He has opposed storage.” The GOP candidate said Obama doesn’t have a plan equal to the nation’s energy challenges.

Hey, all I know is, yesterday his solution was pretty much, “I’ll give everyone a thousand dollars to help with home heating oil.”. There’s a lasting tactic. Oh! And I forgot! We can solve the problem by keeping our tires inflated!.

I’m all for politicians changing their opinions when facts change. But what is the fact that has change, exactly, between yesterday and today?

I mean, aside from the GOP having a mini-revolt over The Pelosi’s refusal to allow open debate or actual voting on drilling, and Obama’s numbers dropping to McCain’s level’s (although it’s still early to take polls that seriously) What fact about energy and oil production or national security has changed, between yesterday and today?

So, I don’t know where it’s all going, but today, I am liking Obama a little better, because you know…you gotta be able to compromise. Wasn’t Bush’s “stubbornness” what the Dems hated about him so much? Maybe next week, Obama will really admit that the surge worked. After all, today someone in his campaign admitted that the card was indeed played.
