“If you are what you should be, you will set the world on fire” – St. Catherine of Siena Our dear nun-friends at Moniales bring us this video in honor of the incredible St. Catherine of Siena, the Dominican Tertiary and Doctor of the Church whose remarkable life gives lie to the silly charge that the Catholic church has held women back: Write the nuns: Her writings, The Dialogue and The Letters of St. Catherine are easily available in excellent... Read more

Elder Son & Buster, long ago Longtime readers may recall that while he was in High School Buster frequently landed in the ER usually from a rash move on the playing field: Now he’s away at college, and here we are again. Only Buster can apply himself to his homework and land in the hospital! He had an assignment to videotape reactions to the breaking of social norms, and then to analyze them. His partner taped him intruding on a... Read more

Isn’t that great? Reader Brian J (who also made the Nun News Network graphic and the Rush/Bullock/Baseball one) sent that over and I love it. In terms of who is in or out, I have always been “out” and my advice on pretty much anything is worth about a nickle, so it’s right-on in every way. This morning is going about working at a local hospital, as I mentioned here. Then, I will be dedicating some serious time toward developing... Read more

See this? Hispanics and Democratic lawmakers furious over Arizona’s harsh crackdown on illegal immigrants expect huge weekend rallies across the United States, piling pressure on President Barack Obama to overhaul immigration laws in this election year. Don’t kid yourselves. They were going to do this whether Arizona passed a law or not. The Dems and the left are replaying what they did in May of 2006: organizing nationwide marches with preprinted signs (courtesy, I am sure, of A.N.S.W.E.R.) and they’re... Read more

Neoneocon looks at this story over at Politico and wonders, is Obama the press’ abusive lover? Obama treats the press with arrogant contempt—and you can’t say they haven’t earned it by their fawning shilling for him in the past. For someone like Obama, that sort of adulation breeds an increase in condescension; he knows he can abuse them with impunity. And so he does, when he thinks it suits his purposes. Obama’s last lingering need to cooperate with the press... Read more

The recent story of the mother who returned her adopted child to Russia, and the abundance of orphans there, piqued my interest in these Catholic Sisters, who are dedicating themselves to serving Russia, and particularly her orphans: Sisters in Jesus the Lord is a Private Association of the Faithful in the process of becoming a religious institute, based in Kansas City, Missouri, sending sisters to Vladivostok, Russia and eventually other countries, too. So, they are not yet considered a full-fledged... Read more

A prayer of St. Anselm: “Come now, little man, turn aside for a while from your daily employment, escape for a moment from the tumult of your thoughts. Put aside your weighty cares, let your burdensome distractions wait, free yourself awhile for God and rest awhile in him. Enter the inner chamber of your soul, shut out everything except God and that which can help you in seeking him, and when you have shut the door, seek him. Now, my... Read more

It pains me to admit it but as much as I love my church, I hate most modern Catholic music. But I like, no love, “Holy is His Name,” John Michael Talbot’s interpretation of Our Lady’s splendid Magnificat. This is a rather good version of it. So it’s nice to see Talbot showing up at Deacon Greg’s establishment and in a two-part interview on Currents, the nightly news show produced by NET-TV, in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Part two will... Read more
