Have been meaning to write about a book I am reading, but my time has been taken up with real life. Tomorrow I am out all day – perhaps tonight I will get to discuss the book w/ you. And yes, I am horribly backed up on my email, sorry. Thanks for bearing with me. Read more

I told you about my amusing Sandra Bullock/Rush Limbaugh dream. Another flashback – this time Sandra Bullock. It’s 10-12 years earlier and she is a smart reporter trying to get out of the shadow of a dumb-but-perky American Sweetheart NewsDitz. Gets a line on a way to infiltrate Rush Limbaugh’s workplace (which, being ten years ago, my brain put in NY) and figures an “insider” expose detailing Limbaugh’s maniacal management and dubious empire will get her noticed and make her... Read more

You ever have one of those dreams that’s so delicious and fun that you hate to wake up, and when you do, you think to yourself, “wow, that was GREAT! I want to finish that dream! I want to videotape that dream, so I can dream it again!” I had such a dream – just awoke from it (yeah, okay, I was sleeping in the middle of the day. My work was done, my insomnia never lets me get a... Read more

Hillary Clinton sort of looking at Our Lady of Guadalupe Okay, I admit I’m being a bit snarky with the headline. I’m not really calling Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama “snakes” – I’m just having a little fun with scripture, and the whole notion that the two biggest abortion proponents in the country are having Marian encounters. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of Mary as The New Eve, there’s lots of info out there, and a few lovely... Read more

הַעִדֹתִי בָכֶם הַיּוֹם, אֶתהַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֶתהָאָרֶץהַחַיִּים וְהַמָּוֶת נָתַתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ, הַבְּרָכָה וְהַקְּלָלָה וּבָחַרְתָּ, בַּחַיִּיםלְמַעַן תִּחְיֶה, אַתָּה וְזַרְעֶךָ – Deuteronomy 30:19 I have argued many times that by welcoming new life into the world – regardless of how “perfect” that life is – we are allowing Love to come into the world, anew. And if God is Love, then it seems to follow that the “completely new” love that occurs between a parent and child – in utero and even more intensely ex... Read more

Comrades, it’s difficult to keep up, but the mandatory service requirement requires that you try. The oxymoronic thing passed in the Senate. It passed by a healthy margin. Yesterday a thoughtful young 24 year old whom I have known since he was about 10 or 11 sent along this piece about California regulating car colors, and I wrote back – feeling a little bit like King Arthur in the last scene of Camelot, “someday you will tell your children about... Read more

Friend Shana, who can read the writing on the wall, is doing a bigger garden than usual, this year and she says she’ll be canning more fruits and vegetables, too. And, (eventually) she’ll be taking care of the eggs. And the fried chicken, if they don’t produce, I’ll bet! Her chicks arrived today: Writes Shana: Please thank your readers from me for buying bumperstickers & T shirts & rosary bracelets, which funded our project! We got 14 laying hens, and... Read more

I had about 50 tabs open on different stories that I meant to link to or touch on in some way. Then my husband sat at my computer for something, decided everything was too slow, and closed them on me. I may or may not be able to find all those stories – I’ll look after mass – but obviously I was meant to feature this piece on its own, because it is more important – and more real –... Read more

Comrades, I am out today, but wanted to throw a few links up. On the heels of the very interesting Mike Rowe, of “Dirty Jobs”, and his thoughts on work, dignity and AIG rage, some very disturbing reading, much of it thanks to Larwyn: Every American a Volunteer: the incomprehensible legislation that is speeding through Congress and will take away your right to do or not do a thing. So much for Freedom in America, circa 2009. Obama presses for... Read more

Stopped over at American Digest (which is a good thing to do each day) and watched this 20 minute video of Discovery Channel’s Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) talking about how biting a lamb’s testicles off brought enlightenment. It’s well worth watching – jogs the brain out of the stuff we “know” so well, we no longer think about them. And really, it’s good to review and reconsider everything, from time to time, don’t you find? Rowe is an educated man... Read more
