Pay attention to your life

I once heard Frederick Buechner say something that I try to keep perpetually in mind. He said, “Pay attention to the things that bring a tear to your eye or a lump in your throat because they are signs that the holy is drawing near.”

The above song (that I was happily surprised to find on YouTube this afternoon) is a 1985 duet from Clannad and Bono, called “In a Lifetime,” never fails to stir something in my heart and bring tears to my eyes.

Perhaps it’s the holy drawing nigh.
