HORROR. Outrage. Disbelief. Shock. All this and more is today being expressed on fundamentalist Christian and social media sites, where for months now people have been exhorting their readers to pray for a Trump second term.
Humorists, on the other hand, have been having a field day. Our resident illustrator Shell Fisher, on learning of the Biden/Harris victory today, sent me this:
Not laughing is “ex-gay” writer for LifeSiteNews, Doug Mainwaring who condenses all the concerns splashed across other far-right sites with a breakdown of measures he fantasises the Domocrats will enact now they have taken the presidency:
Current polling data shows that 74,446,452 Americans voted for Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and their anti-human, anti-life platform, revealing disturbing truths about a huge segment of the US. population.
Over 74 million Americans just voted to:
• Support abortion and infanticide under any circumstance;
• Smash religious liberty via the Equality Act;
• Prosecute the Little Sisters of the Poor, and any other Christian organization or person of faith seeking to follow their consciences;
• Make “transgender rights” the number one civil rights issue of our time;
• Mandate face masks across the nation interminably, keeping government’s boot on the neck of the economy;
• Allow minors as young as eight years old to choose dangerous hormone treatments to treat childhood and adolescent gender dysphoria without parental approval and despite parental objections: A temporary measure leading to a lifetime of pain and regret;
• Deny counseling for anyone with unwanted same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria;
• Squash the fossil fuel industry, tossing up to ten million people out of work, and ending affordable transportation and energy for all but elites;
• Open our borders, creating a tsunami of illegal immigration.
He added:
Whether or not the number is off by even a few million, around 70 million Americans still pulled the lever for Biden-Harris. Perhaps worst of all: Because Joe Biden claims to be a Catholic … the United States will offer a horribly distorted portrait of Catholicism and what it means to be a Catholic man to the entire world … brace yourself for a horrifying fundamental transformation of America, with Christian faith and morals in the crosshairs.
‘Repulsive’

While politicians from around the world have been lining up to congratulate Biden, former Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind, above – just ahead of the victory announcement – took the opportunity in a BBC Radio 5 interview to call Trump “repulsive.”
He said that while Donald Trump is a “brilliant campaigner” has been of no benefit to the US. Rifkind went on to question why Americans have voted for Trump.
BBC presenter Emma Barnett asked: “Why do you think people are so drawn to Donald Trump?”
His reply:
I don’t know, I wish you could give me an answer to that … He is the head of state and his whole manner and style of carrying out his responsibilities are so coarse, so vulgar, so insulting to friends as well as to foes.
I find him a really exhausting experience and one that does no benefit to his own country. I cannot begin to understand that after four years of this guy, roughly half the American people still appear to want him to continue as President.
When Barnett noted that “repulsive is an incredibly strong word!” Sir Malcolm retorted:
You asked for my opinion so I offered it.
Huff Post, in reporting on international reaction to Biden’s win, pointed out that:
America’s image abroad plummeted under Trump. A Pew Research Center survey released in September showed that the percentage of people in several countries who viewed the U.S. favorably had reached its lowest point in Pew’s nearly 20 years of asking foreigners their opinion of the U.S. In Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Canada and Australia ― all longtime allies ― only a minority of people saw the U.S. positively.
Trump’s catastrophic approach to the coronavirus pandemic, which continued to kill hundreds of Americans daily as most other nations slashed their infection and fatality rates, further hurt the perception of the U.S.
