Leave it to Homer Simpson to help us understand the “end times” better. Beware, or you too may be – Left Below! This warning filled our TV screens, our newspapers, and our digital news feeds.  The world watched as people quit their jobs, gave all their money to advertising the rapture, and traveled throughout the world to spread the message of May 21, 2011.  Through various internal mathematical calculations, Harold Camping and followers, convinced themselves that they could predict the... Read more

This is the age old question: Can a person lose their salvation? Of course, two broad schools of thought emerge in theological discourse. On one end of the spectrum are the 5.5 point Calvinists (not really sure what the .5 is all about). Watch this and enjoy. Please don’t make this a Driscoll bashing session. I may not resonate with most much of what Mark has to say or some of his methods, but I don’t want to make this an us vs “the new calvinists” post. This is… well… just hilarious. Read more

This week I want to point your attention to a great book, written by Tim Geddert.  Its called All Right Now: Finding Consensus on Ethical Questions.  Tim is a New Testament Scholar with a heart for the church.  Here’s the product description: Polarizing issues are dividing the church. Is your congregation seeking consensus? How should you begin? With this book Timothy J. Geddert can help your church find what he calls the middle way between rule-oriented legalism and irresponsible freedom... Read more

A few years ago I was on my way to a speaking engagement in LA.  While I drove over the Grapevine, I saw an object moving rapidly toward my windshield.  Before I could figure out what was flying toward my car, I heard the impact… “ding!”  The object struck the bottom right hand side of my windshield and left a small crack.  Before long, the crack started climbing across my windshield, until an arc shaped horizontal line went all the... Read more

Carson T. Clark is one of my favorite blogger friends.  He’s smart, witty, and has a passion for the kingdom of God.  We don’t agree all the time, but that’s what makes for good conversation!  I hope you will check out his blog and add it too your readers!  Follow him on Twitter and Facebook as well. —————————————————- Over a decade as a christian vagabond I intently explored 16 different traditions before finding a home in Anglicanism. I wonder if you have any thoughts on this video? My thoughts: 1) Tracts, in themselves, are terrible representations of the Gospel and make Christians look silly. 2) Tracts tend to focus on “getting a soul saved” with the assumption that hell, damnation, and rapture are imminent. This is dualist at best, and escapist at worst. (more…) Read more
