Delight!

Delight!

This morning, I sat down to read and pray a bit.  At our Wednesday Bible study on “The Sufficiency of God” I’ve asked everyone to read daily Psalm 103 and then to add to that this week the eighth chapter of Romans.

I love those first words there: “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”

They come as such welcome relief after the downer of Romans 7 where the writer speaks eloquently of being stuck and helpless in destructive life patterns and then–wow!!!!  It all comes together:  No condemnation!  We’re free, free to live lightly, to soar like the eagles, to let joy and happiness touch our eager tastebuds.

This is the good news. Tension dissipates, the sorrow that often chases me as I spend time in prayer both for our community and for the world begins to lift, as I remember once more that God is out to set us free from the chains of sin and death.

Today, I pray, “I give You thanks, Merciful God, for love and freedom and lightness and hope. What a wonderful gift. Amen.”
