Try typing into a search engine these words, “Saudi woman to be whipped for driving a car” and see how many links pop up. Dozens–it is in the news everywhere. Yep, a brave Saudi Arabian woman, who, by the way broke no law, is to be whipped (ten lashes) by the religious authorities for having the gall to drive a car.
Why? Apparently the radical Islamist group that has a religious chokehold on the region is just sure that by so doing, she will fall into sin. She’ll have made an independent move, and that is just enough to set them off.
I hope this action will push Saudi women by the thousands out of their hidden enclosures into the streets in protest. Yes, they’ll probably get whipped, and the first people of any movement to freedom generally become martyrs, but it is time.
My question: why isn’t it sin for those religious leaders to hold this much power over people? Why do only others sin and not themselves? It is time to end religions that oppress others in the name of the diety they have created in their own power-hungry, angry, images. Get free, folks. Enough is enough.
