The TP ticket, law and order and the UMC

The TP ticket, law and order and the UMC July 18, 2016
  • No unmarried woman will ever have sex; no married woman will ever find herself needing an abortion (boys will be boys, of course and do whatever their lusts drive them to do–after all, we do have one of the more immoral men ever running for prez ).
  • No person of color, especially should they be Black, will ever even suggest that life and law has been the least bit unfair to them or that they may lack access to decent education or basic health care for them or their families.
  • Everyone will be armed and prepared to shoot anyone else on the slightest provocation.
  • Evangelicalism will become the official religion of the US.  This means one set of agreed upon beliefs, including a six-day creation, and inerrant Bible–which only a few will have the power to interpret. This will be accompanied by the imposition of rigid rules, particularly where sexual activities are concerned as Evangelicalism is obsessed with sex. Homosexuality will become punishable by law. Religious thought police will be trained to enforce these laws and beliefs.one figure pushing another

The parallels in the UMC will be similar.

  • Evangelicalism will become the official doctrinal stance of the UMC.
  • Thought police will roam through churches and seminaries, expelling those who do not pass an inquisitional-type quiz.
  • No person who does not fit the absolute binary of sexual identity shall be permitted entrance into the corridors of power. However, they shall be permitted to lead music and art programs, work in the kitchens and nurseries and so properly serve their straight superiors.
  • All dissent will be pushed down, so that the world may be offered purity, neatness and conformity in belief and church form.

OK, I may be stretching it a bit, but . . . look at human history. The need to have “law and order” led to Hitler’s success and Stalin’s ability to arrange for the murder or imprisonment of 20,000,000 Soviet citizens during his rule. The need to have people conform inevitably leads to genocide and draconian police states. The need to have churches in tight doctrinal adherence has led to religious horrors that sicken the soul.

But that’s where we are currently heading.

Personally, I think most people are actively fighting against chaos–that there is a real pull toward wanting order and certainty.
