The eternal quest for the evangelical thin

The eternal quest for the evangelical thin August 2, 2016

warped building with reflecting water smWhy do women need to stay small? Where does this warped image of the female body come from? Why does this seem to be particularly prevalent in the evangelical world?

I have my religious roots there; I know it well, even as I left it–or more properly was kicked out for being entirely too uppity, entirely too willing to challenge the status quo, endlessly questioning the restrictions on women in leadership, on the need to keep women small.

More memories of years as a silenced and small woman in the evangelical world popped up last week when the Christian blogosphere blew up after an article by a prominent evangelical scholar calling on evangelicals to make the “moral choice to vote for Trump” hit the press.

The author of the article, Wayne Grudem, is best known for his opus (Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood) declaring that women are forever subservient to men in a church environment. This link takes you to an article Grudem wrote where he painstakingly wrote out lists of spiritually related positions, ranking those where women must be forever kept out.

Naturally, then, a woman must not become President of the US. Now, his defense of Donald dare not declare that stance openly, but the fact that Trump is an amazingly crude misogynist cannot have escaped Grudem’s notice.

No wonder he supports him. Women must be kept small; A Donald presidency would be a great way to stamp out yet another uppity woman.
