If any readers live out by Orange County, CA, or have friends who do, I’ll be there this Friday for the premiere of Convinced, a documentary about converts to Catholicism.
Convinced includes interviews with a number of converts to Catholicism, and the one I’m most excited to meet in person is Holly Ordway, the author of Not God’s Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms, who is like me insofar as she’s a curly-haired, argumentative atheist-turned-Catholic who fought her way into the faith. She’s much cooler than me though in being a fencer.
If you’re interested in seeing the film in CA, and coming to the Q&A with me, Holly, and several other converts, the full details are here. You can also arrange a screening at a local theater or for a school or church group or watch the documentary on demand. And, of course, you can always grab Arriving at Amen, to read more about my conversion and what came after.
In the meantime, here’s a little easter egg for all y’all: When the filmmakers came to my house, we were figuring out how to make the couch I was sitting on look a little more visually interesting. So, you can see in the shot the artfully arranged scarf (that someone had forgotten at my house after a party) and the books I brought down for the end table (Hofstadter’s Gödel, Escher, Bach and Eve Tushnet’s Gay and Catholic, since I’m always recommending them).
