Flora and I have a true and magickal relationship, and it continues to deepen and grow. There’s the saying “You reap what you sow” and that is certainly true with all my plants, but my poisonous plants are in a totally different way. I organically garden by the moon and have a lovely vegetable, herb, and dwarf fruit tree garden where the abundance is truly astonishing. But my poisonous plants offer quite a different abundance. Datura innoxia and Datura stramonium were the first of my poisonous plants to gift me with such an abundance, and have been regrowing themselves every late spring. I do not plant seeds, nor water their pots, but around May Day I always have a few new daturas sprouting. They prefer staying in pots so I grow them on my deck where I can spend time with them every evening. Their hypnotic scent lures me out to them, and I can hear their siren songs to the moon late into the eve on warm summer nights.
In summer, I do my Flowers of the Night Oracle readings out on the deck amongst the daturas. It is an oracle deck that consists of flowers including datura, and creatures that come alive within the night. I chose the deck for its dark theme of flora and fauna but found it works perfectly to speak with the daturas. The oracle reading is also about the moon’s phases, and has a “Full Moon Oracle Spread.” Being that daturas are most definitely a flower of the moon as am I… this only deepens my ability to connect with them. So I am beginning to have visions of datura of late, which is why I am telling this tale. She calls to me from her deep sleep now, and whispers we shall be together again… thoughts of a wood witch.
