Do you believe “I think therefore I am”?

Do you believe “I think therefore I am”? July 20, 2012

I remember sitting in a college class and the teacher quoting from, Descartes, “I think therefore I am.”  Like everything, consciousness is ever expanding and shifting the way in which see life.  We used to believe that the earth was square, now we know that it is not. We know this because someone questioned the paradigm of what we thought we were seeing.  With quantum physics, different sciences, metaphysics, and spirituality, we are beginning to  understand that it maybe should read, “I am, therefore I think, therefore I have a body.”

How do we arrive at this understanding, many of you have different ways in which you arrive at I AM, so the investigation starts there.  There is great power in your thoughts, but if the thoughts are controlling your life then we feel powerless. So we must first see the thoughts happen.  Witness them.  Then as we become comfortable in this, we begin to identify with the witness more then the thoughts.  From the I AM, we begin to have more interest in what we are saying, thinking, and responding too, otherwise we just become reactors to life.  We don’t think at all, we react to life and then life becomes a constant defense. In this defense life seems to be against us. When in actuality we are against ourselves.  We are attacking us.  Now the opportunity here is to recognize that life is happening, and so the first thing people want to do is blame themselves for things going wrong, or others. Blame selves for not thinking correctly, or having problems.  BEWARE of this kind of reaction, it can be subtle and quick.   You are responsible for your your response to the situation.  You are hit in the car, simple, you are hit.  It happens. The question is your response to the happening. Is it to react or respond?  Either way is how you choose. But first you must realize that you have a choice.  Thinking as hard as it may seem, may be another choice.

If I am constantly repeating the same behavior, actions, relationships, etc.. and having the same results year after year, then I have to see it is my choice and see from the witness how I am responding? How I am being?  Etc..

Sometimes in our early growth in a practice, we give up, then get back in it. Or we leave, and come back years later.  But like any practice, it is a practice.  But the practice is moment to moment.  So letting life happen as it is, helps. But it is a constant practice. So be gentle with yourself and others.
