Okay, so somehow I got on the mailing list for McCain and Co. Public Relations, and every now and then they send me press releases about their artists. I checked my inbox the other day and found this: All-American football star, recording artist and actor Terry Warren has a feature spot in The Campaign, the new comedy starring Will Ferrell that will be in theaters August 10. The Warner Bros. film, which tells the story of two Southerners vying for... Read more

I’m writing this post a little hastily, so forgive the brevity and/or incompleteness of my thoughts. I had thought that I would be writing this a little closer to election time, but someone has already expressed an interest in what I think given Romney’s recent choice of VP candidate. So perhaps now is a good time to just get it out of the way. Simply put, I’m not planning to vote for Mitt Romney this year. But not for some... Read more

Introduction to the posted video, written to give information about it, such as the name (“Title of the Song”) and artist (Da Vinci’s Notebook). Explanation that this parody is meant to provide a basic template for boy band songs. Repetition of caveat that while all MMH clips are clean, not all MMH sources create entirely family-friendly material, which applies to today’s artist. Expectation that my readers will enjoy. Assurances that you will understand why I’m writing my sentences like this... Read more

I hadn’t planned to write further on the Chick-Fil-A flap (er, bad pun sort of intended). But professorpook left a comment on my Saturday open thread trying to argue the case that Barnabas Piper made good points in the article to which I linked so negatively. So I decided to take a leaf from Thomas Aquinas by laying out this post in the form of “objections” and “responses.” We’ll go systematically through professorpook’s comment and answer each objection he raises.... Read more

Stephen Hill, a beloved singer/songwriter and Gaither Homecomings regular, passed away last night of a heart attack during soundcheck for a concert in North Carolina (HT: Daniel Mount). The Gaither organization issued a statement today: Stephen was a “gentle giant” with a kind, soft-spoken nature and a tenor voice as versatile as it was beautiful. He had a sincere heart for people and for sharing the hope of Christ with audiences throughout his career. He was dearly loved by his... Read more

Have you ever felt like the reporters you watch on TV aren’t really telling us much of anything? The British, with their strange sense of humor, had a short-lived television series featuring nothing but fake “news” broadcasts (with interruptions for pointless advertisements) that was meant to poke fun at what real “broken news” sometimes feels like. Here’s my favorite clip, featuring the gifted and inimitable Benedict Cumberbatch as our intrepid reporter, here reporting on an outbreak of the dreaded tomato... Read more

I’m going back to the time-saving “likes/dislikes” format I used with a previous review. I may begin adopting this more frequently. Enjoy. Likes: * “Calvary’s Cry” (featuring Brian Free) is a worthy addition to the ever-growing ranks of “cross songs.” With a lyric that strives successfully to steer clear of cliches and a rich musical composition, it’s a standout project ballad. * “I Want to Be That Man,” co-written by Lee Black and Brian’s son Ricky, is as good as... Read more

A while ago I came across this video of Tim Keller answering a question about homosexuality to a non-Christian audience. I thought it was disappointingly weak and shallow, and I came up with lots of things to criticize about it. However, there was one thing that stood out to me as particularly bothersome. So I thought that instead of taking the time to polish and publish a full critique of the video, I would just offer a response to this... Read more

I thought this would be a timely kick-off to the new series. Tim Hawkins has actually written two parody tunes about Chick-Fil-A, one of them a take-off on the Beatles’ “Yesterday” and one of them a take-off on “God Bless the U.S.A.” We present them both for your enjoyment: Read more

When I went to the Signature Sound/Collingsworth family concert in Shipshewana this summer (for which a review IS forthcoming, I promise), I brought a camera, as I do for every concert. Unfortunately, the Blue Gate Theater doesn’t have the greatest lighting conditions for hopeful photographers, and my view of the stage for the entire first half of the concert was dodgy and intermittent. So while I did manage against all odds to capture a few middling decent shots, I didn’t... Read more
