Frequently Asked Questions

Can somebody be evangelical and liberal?

Usually theologically liberal would be a mutually exclusive term from evangelical.  For the most part, theologically liberal or "mainline" Protestants do not consider themselves to be evangelicals. However, some members of progressive and emerging church groups are challenging the distinction between liberal and evangelical, advocating a move away from older dichotomies. Also, many evangelicals, like those associated with Sojouners Magazine, Call to Renewal, or Evangelicals for Social Action very well may consider themselves to be politically or socially liberal, while embracing traditional evangelical theological ideals.
