RIP Lou Reed: meditator, student of Buddhist philosophy, and friend of Tibet

“Lou Reed was not a Buddhist” writes Rod Meade Sperry for Shambhala SunSpace. However, he did study meditation under Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and claimed to be a “student of Buddhist philosophy.” He was also a supporter of various causes, including the movement to free Tibet.

Justin: I’m a bit late to this post, but thanks for sharing this info. I now have another reason to respect Lou Reed, who is kind of a regional hero to those of us who grew up in the NY Metropolitan area and who enjoy gritty music.

You’re never too late on a post to add a nice comment, mufi. It seems that Lou was a hero to many – in often very different contexts – which is often the mark of a truly wonderful being. Cheers, jw.
