    It seems like they’re trying to tie it in more with the Trilogy, which is a very interesting idea. I wonder what’s up with Galadriel and Gandalf.

      Spoiler Alert(?) … at least for those that haven’t read all the various books, including Unfinished Tales. My guess is that it’s tied to a meeting of the White Council … which included as members both Galadriel and Gandalf (as well as Saruman and Radagast, who are also in the movie) — either the one that occurred at the time of Bilbo’s adventure, or perhaps in a flashback 90 years to the preceding meeting in 2851 T.A.. That brief clip of Galadriel and Gandalf appears to be in Rivendell, and I believe that is where the 2851 meeting was held; also that meeting was shortly after Gandalf entered Dol Guldur and retrieved the Lonely Mountain map and key from Thrain II … which would make it all very relevant to “The Hobbit” narrative.
