Afghan aid worker to be hanged for converting to Christianity

Shocking but true.

An Afghan physiotherapist will be executed within three days for converting to Christianity.

Said Musa, 45, has been held for eight months in a Kabul prison were he claims he has been tortured and sexually abused by inmates and guards.

Mr Musa, who lost his left leg in a landmine explosion in the 1990s, has worked for the Red Cross for 15 years and helps to treat fellow amputees.

He was arrested in May last year as he attempted to seek asylum at the German embassy following a crackdown on Christians within Afghanistan.

He claims he was visited by a judge who told him he would be hanged within days unless he converted back to Islam.

But he remains defiant and said he would be willing to die for his faith.

He told the Sunday Times: ‘My body is theirs to do what they want with.

‘Only God can decide if my spirit goes to hell.’

Defence lawyers have refused to represent him, while others have dropped the case after receiving death threats.

Mr Musa was arrested after a TV station showed western men baptising Afghans during secret ceremonies.

  1. Know what? I’d be telling them I had gone back to Islam, and then when released (would he be released if he “went back to Islam?”) I’d follow my Christian beliefs. (after leaving Afganistan that is). I’d not be willing to die for my religion—the mind can stay with the beliefs, and the mouth can just spout out whatever the enemy wants to hear—they wouldn’t know that you were lying. I think my god would understand if I lied to save my life. It is a shame, however, that a country that American service members are DYING in can’t accept all religions. This man had helped others for 15 years and just because he decided to become a Christian he has to die? Totally archaic.

  2. Pagansister,
Jesus said, “If you deny me before men, I will deny you before my Father in heaven”.

  3. I’m no longer a Christian, Thomas A, so I’m not expecting to have to worry about it. Also, I’m not heading for Afganistan any time soon, or anywhere in the Middle East, for that matter. Would love to visit there, Israel, Egypt etc., but not safe enough and probably won’t be for a long time. As I said above, the fact that AFganistan feels it necessary to kill a man due to his religion is archaic. I admire him for sticking by his guns, and it will probably cost him his life. If indeed he lied, he might be able to go back out to help other people.

  4. I am surprised that you put “shocking but true” at the top of this post. There is nothing at all shocking about Christians being murdered in muslim lands, it has been happening for centuries.

  5. I agree with Gen X Revert. The most physically endangered species on the planet earth are Christians living under Moslem control.
While the American media was focusing on the protests in Cairo, it ignored the slaughter of Christians in 4 incidents of the past month.
And just today many religious web sites were reporting on a new assault on Christians and Christian churches in “more tolerant” Indonesia.
And while this Christian convert awaits the hangman, over in Pakistan a Christian woman is awaiting execution for allegedly blaspheming Allah.
The Western Christian and secular world had better wake up.
