Aloha: 13 new deacons for Honolulu

Aloha: 13 new deacons for Honolulu January 31, 2015

Honolulu_Dcn Class 7

I received the following email from Deacon John Coughlin, Co-Director of Permanent Deacon Formation for the Diocese of Honolulu:

This is the first ordination of permanent deacons in the diocese since February of 2007 when the program was halted pending the completion of a thorough self-assessment.

These men and their wives began their five year journey in January of 2010. They join 66 other deacons of which 41 are actively serving in the diocese.

Bishop Larry Silva ordained the final six men this morning (January 31, 2015) in Honolulu (Island of Oahu) at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa.

In traditional Hawaiian fashion, the newly ordained were bedecked with flower lei upon exiting the Co-Cathedral (seen here are Deacons Steve Kula and Keith Cabiles with family and friends)..

The Diocese now conducts concurrent cohorts with the next ordinations anticipated in January of 2018. Recruitment for Class 9 is underway with Aspirancy Year scheduled to begin in January 2016.

Congratulations and welcome, brothers! Ad multos annos!
