Visiting Israel

Visiting Israel January 17, 2010

One of the things I’m already looking forward to doing with the professional development funds connected with the endowed chair to which I’ve been appointed is travelling to some places I’ve long meant to visit, in particular places connected with the New Testament. Turkey is already on the radar, but even higher up on the list is Israel.

At some point I’d love to volunteer for an archaeological dig or do a short-term language course or something of that sort. But first I’d like to simply visit.

I’d love to hear from blog readers who have had the opportunity to visit Israel. Did you visit with family, and if so how child friendly did you find various places you went to? Did you go as part of a pre-organized tour, or did you make separate arrangements for day trips/tours once you were there? Or did you just grab a guide book and explore? How much time did you spend in various places? Would spending a week in Jerusalem with perhaps one or two day trips from there be enough? What places did you visit, and which did you like most?
