The Center for Progressive Christianity sends regular e-mails, and today’s had so many interesting articles that I thought I’d share the links. First, there’s Jim Burklo’s “O Little Town” which fits the music but reflects the modern situation in Bethlehem far more than the original carol. (And as for Nazareth, presumably you’ve already heard from one source or another about the first-century house archaeologists have uncovered there).

Back at TCPC, Michael Moorwood has a piece on progressive Christians and God-talk. Fred Plumer also has a piece on God Talk, and there was also a link to an article about concepts of God which I probably wouldn’t have shared if it weren’t for the Yiddish proverb it shared: “If triangles had a God, He’d have three sides.”

Also via e-mail, David Crumm shared this money-making opportunity for college students:

CALLING ALL CAMERA-TOTING COLLEGE STUDENTS!

Here’s a Way to Make Some Serious Bucks!

Listen up readers who are in college—or work regularly with college students!

The http://www.patheos.com/ Web site is hosting a filmmaking contest called “Faith on Campus.”

The goal is to inspire college kids to make videos shorter than 5 minutes on 1 of 3 themes:

1.) “Why I Am a (blank).” (Whatever your religious affiliation may be.)

2.) “How I Live My Faith on Campus”

3.) “Rituals and Practices of My Faith”

The prize money is serious: 1st Prize is $2,500; then three other prizes are $1,000; and a fifth prize is going to the top video vote-getter on the Patheos Web site.

That’s not to mention the way-cool credibility of winning a contest judged by Patheos’ slate of notable judges. Trying to get into grad school? Trying to qualify for an internship? Winning a classy contest like this is great for your resume. PLUS, GET THIS: Patheos has been welcoming videos since November 12 and so far competitors have only managed to post 6 videos!

Do the math and pull out your cameras!

HERE IS A LINK to the Patheos Contest site. Check out the 6 entries, so far—most of which don’t seem focused on the actual categories.

There’s plenty of room to win here, and the deadline for videos is January 31. Somebody’s going to make some serious bucks for college bills next year by simply expending a little sincere creative effort … And, you can’t say we didn’t make this opportunity as plain as day!
