One Night with the King — first weekend

One Night with the King — first weekend October 15, 2006

One Night with the King cracked the North American box-office top ten this weekend. And if the estimates hold, its $4,326,000 take will rank as the second-highest opening weekend ever among independently produced evangelical movies — slightly ahead of End of the Spear (2006; $4,281,388) and a couple million behind Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie (2002; $6,201,345; my review).

FWIW, as far as I can tell, One Night with the King has not come to Canada yet. It is pretty rare for independent Christian films to open here simultaneously with their American releases; Luther (2003; my review) opened here over a year after it opened south of the border, and even films like Left Behind (2000) and The Gospel of John (2003), which were produced by Canadian firms, opened here a few weeks or months after they did Stateside.

That said, the makers of One Night with the King were good enough to send me a screener, and I hope to watch it very soon.
