7 Quick Takes Friday

I bought bacon!

I love bacon. We never, ever buy bacon. But I decided to get some because the nitrate-free stuff (the only kind I’ll eat) was on sale at Meijer.

So, we’re having bacon this weekend. Just thought you’d like to know.

Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” made from bacon. As all art should be.

My friend manages a little bo-ho cafe in town and they serve Swedish pancakes, which are very similar to crepes. One of the pancakes ( I can’t recall the fancy Swedish name for them) is filled with Nutella and bacon.

That is either amazing or disgusting. I am learning toward amazing.

Any thoughts on combining bacon with chocolate?

Thanks to everyone who shared a comment on yesterday’s post. I was really unsure when I hit “publish”, but I think it does make sense.

I appreciate the discussion that has been happening all over the internet about NFP. I just hope we can pull it together enough to get some women off of the carcinogens, and onto a healthier life.

So, we live in Indiana. The middle part of Indiana. We’re about 3-4 hours from a large body of water (Lake Michigan) and about 10 hours or more from the Gulf of Mexico (which you’ll hit eventually if you drive straight south).

But Maggie is obsessed with the beach.

Maggie has never been to the beach.

She has two beach books; “At the Beach” and “A Day at the Sea Shore” and those are the go-to books. In fact, she goes to bed with “At the Beach” every night.

Basically, we have to take this child to the beach.

So we’re planning a little overnight trip to the Indiana Dunes this summer. It’s on the shore of Lake Michigan. Not the Chicago side, though. The other side. It’s like a real beach and everything. I mean, for the Midwest.

Just like a real beach. Sort of.

I grew up going to the Jersey Shore (fist pump!) every summer until I was 5 or so. So it’s the “beach” but it’s not “The Beach”.

Someday we’ll take Maggie to “The Beach” but probably not until she’s quite a bit older.

Tomorrow and Sunday Atticus and I are co-facillitating the One in Christ marriage prep program at our parish. This time it’s 13 couples!

Say a prayer for them and us, if you please. All of the couples are Catholic (except for one person who is Methodist) and 6 of the couples listed the same address for them both on the registration. You know what that means.

We’ve got our work cut out for us. We’ll need all the prayer we can get.

Also, I have to watch the movie Fireproof. Again. Help.

I realized I never posted Easter pictures, so here they are.

And one more:

Getting ready for the Egg Hunt!

Hope you all have a happy weekend.

Really? Fireproof is a necessity? Isn’t watching that equivalent to getting a whole heck of a lot of time off in purgatory? I hate that movie! And here you have all those serious concerns to worry about with the marriage prep, but that is the thing that stuck out most to me!

It’s so funny to me how kids get so fixated on certain things for whatever reason. I’m sure your trip to the beach will be a blast. :)

As for the nutella and bacon, you’ll have to let us know how that goes. I mean, Nutella? Yum! Bacon? Yum! But I don’t know what happens when you put the two together.

YES! We have a major love affair with bacon too. Like you I was so excited to see nitrate free bacon. And the pancakes things sound amazing. My family and I make chocolate covered bacon every year. Delicious. Trust me. No don’t. Trust me, try it yourself. You won’t be sorry.

The dunes are the only beach we know (being about 2hrs west of them). We go every year and love it. Dominic had so much fun last summer.

The Easter pics are great! What a beautiful family.

I’m with CM, individually I love bacon and Nutella. together I’m not sure (please report back).

The bacon Van Gogh is wonderfully bizarre!!

Oh no, Fireproof is part of the marriage prep? Maybe a few thinly-disguised jabs at the poor acting will make them still at least halfway listen to what you have to say after that? I will pray :)

And we just tried some nitrate-free bacon from our farmers for the first time a few weeks ago. The color was terrible, but it tasted amazing! In fact, we got their regular bacon this time (which the wife had raved about) and actually decided we liked the nitrate-free better, to our great surprise! I’m not sure about the whole nitrate debate and haven’t studied it enough to care, but based on taste we’re going nitrate-free for now!

That’s so cute that she loves the beach so much even though she’s never been! I hope the marriage program goes well this weekend, I’ll say a prayer for you, your husband, and the couples! :)

Praying for you and Atticus right now that all is going well – you are amazing people and an amazing couple so I’m sure it is wonderful!

    Beautiful pictures.

I guess since I’m not married I don’t get it. But I saw Fireproof after it came out and I thought it was a good movie.

I LOVE the beach too!! That was the worst thing about living in Texas the beaches we lived near weren’t as nice as the east coast beaches I grew up going to. Now we live in Florida and live 15 minutes from awesome beaches and I’m in heaven!!

I just got BACON JAM to review on my blog! I can’t wait to try it. It sounds gross and yummy at the same time!! I wonder what I should dip it in :)

I have not seen Fireproof. What is it about?

I have been to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It is gorgeous. It is a real beach. Indiana Dunes State Park is within the National Lakeshore. There is great hiking on the beach, on the dunes, in the forest behind the dunes. There are hikes in wetland areas. You need more than a day to enjoy it all. More trails are being added and more area is being restored to how it was long ago.

If any of you readers are from Chicago or South Bend, you can take the SouthShore train and get off at the Dunes stop. That stop is next door to the state park, You can walk to the park and hike there. No need for a car if you just want to do a day trip.

You and your family will have a great time.

    I like the bacon picture.
