1 Samuel 2: A Prayer of Joy

1 Samuel 2: A Prayer of Joy November 27, 2012

“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” -1 Samuel 2:2

After God answer Hannah’s prayer for a son, she responded with another prayer–a response of praise: “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”

Hannah’s heart reflected an attitude of thanksgiving and gratitude. She acknowledged God’s uniqueness, his power, and his love.

When God answers our prayers, how do we respond? Honestly, I often follow an answered prayer with another request, another desire, or another craving. Instead, I need to respond as Hannah–with gratitude. At a time of year when we often look back at our blessings, I certainly realize my need to increase the times I thank God rather than only looking for results.

Maybe you’ve encounter the same pattern. When the world around us teaches to get more, want more, and do more, we must be diligent in our efforts to pause and praise the One who provides our every need. When we do, we both honor our Lord and remember his goodness to us.
