Confident actions

Confident actions January 11, 2014

If you lack confidence, then do something about it — literally. Do something. Take action. No matter how little confidence you may have, still there is something you can bring yourself to do, some small action you can take. Go ahead and do it. Take that first step. Keep doing it until you develop the confidence to take the next step. Before long, you’ll have enough confidence to go anywhere you choose.

Though confidence is much more than an act, the way you act can serve to enhance your confidence and to remind you of it. Walk confidently. Put a confident look on your face. Talk confidently. Breathe confidently. Confidently look people in the eyes when you talk with them. Stand confidently. Simply acting with confidence won’t create confidence, but it will bring your authentic existing confidence to the surface.

True confidence is unconditional confidence, and such confidence cannot be eroded by changing circumstances. If your sense of confidence is based merely on certain conditions, then when those conditions change your confidence will disappear. Don’t allow your confidence to be based on superficial factors such as the neighborhood where you live, the kind of car you drive, or the clothes you wear. Such a confidence is a false and transitory confidence that can disappear overnight. Instead of basing your inner confidence on your outer world, turn things around. Let the outer, visible things in your life, such as your home, your car, and your clothes, be expressions of your confidence rather than sources of it.

How would you act right now if you were totally confident in yourself? Go ahead and do it, and feel the genuine confidence as it grows within you.
