Another Church Shooting

This time at a Baptist church in Illinois. The pastor was killed and several parishioners were injured as, just like at Tennessee Valley UU, they charged the shooter and disarmed him. No word on any motives. Here’s the story as it stands now, from the AP via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

I remember Scottie Johnson’s sermon the Sunday after the incident in Knoxville. She ran off a list of perhaps a dozen acts of violence against churches – they were all across the religious spectrum. They had nothing in common except their doors were open to anyone who wanted to walk in and hear an encouraging word.

Let’s all say a prayer for Rev. Fred Winters – may his god give him peace. And say another prayer for his family and the folks at First Baptist Church of Maryville, Illinois.

And say a third that this madness will end.
