Trump Lines up REELZ as New Suitor for Miss USA Pageant

Trump Lines up REELZ as New Suitor for Miss USA Pageant July 2, 2015

That didn’t take long.

The Miss USA Pageant, sponsored the Miss Universe Organization, co-owned by business mogul and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, was booted off both Spanish-language network Univision and its sister company, NBC, in the wake of Trump’s un-PC remarks about the criminal element present among illegal immigrants crossing the border into the U.S. from Mexico.

NBC also said it wouldn’t air the related Miss Universe pageant, and cut ties in general with Trump, host and executive producer of its popular “Celebrity Apprentice” reality series (also executive-produced by Mark Burnett, who recently did “The Bible” for History and “A.D.: The Bible Continues” for NBC, with wife Roma Downey). Joining the exodus was Macy’s, which said it would no longer sell Trump-branded menswear.

Trump has filed a $500M lawsuit against Univision for breach of contract, and it appear he has a strong case. Trump has also threatened to sue NBC, saying the network has stood “behind lying Brian Williams” (click here for more on that at CatholicVote) while abandoning him.

Whatever the outcome of all of this, Trump has wasted no time finding a new home for his pageant. Albuquerque-based cablenet REELZ Channel has stepped in to air the event on July 12.

The cabler is no stranger to programming controversy.

Previously, REELZ nabbed the 2011 miniseries “The Kennedys” originally produced for History, which refused to air it (and now REELZ is planning a sequel, bringing Katie Holmes back as Jackie Kennedy). REELZ then picked the provocative 2012 Sarah Palin-focused documentary “The Undefeated.”

Here’s the announcement from REELZ, which was sent out this morning:
