Religion News Service has sponsored a contest, inviting artists to submit their portraits of Pope Francis. Artists from eight countries around the world have submitted works ranging from oils to pastels, from pastels to pen and ink, even cloth. They used high-tech tools and low-tech pencils. The contributors were professional artists, devoted Catholics, and children. (I even saw one sketch by Facebook friend Joe Sales.)
I’ve included here just a few of the entries, to give you an idea of the range of ideas. Click on the link to view the full gallery of papal portraits, and to vote for your favorite.
You may vote as often as you like, but the contest ends at midnight on Sunday, September 8. The winner will be announced on Monday, September 9.
