Stop the HHS Mandate!
Do petitions like this do any good?
I’d very much like to see some evidence one way or the other, since I have no idea, but my pessimistic nature is doubtful.
According to their website: “If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response.” They claim that they have responded to 97 petitions, so far: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/response/were-listening-seriously
You can read one such response here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/response/protecting-health-women-while-accommodating-religious-liberty – and then, don’t you just feel better?
I couldn’t find responses to the any of the many “secede from the union” petitions. In fact, it was reported that the Whitehouse has ignored Texas’ petition, which garnered 5 times the necessary signatures: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/12/texas-secession-petition-ignored-by-white-house/
So… I don’t see that the petitions have any effect in Washington, but they might be cathartic to us minions.
Say it is brought to the President’s attention and he immediately gives Hobby Lobby the exemption, would they still have standing in their lawsuit?
