Update on Fr. Corapi

People write me from time to time and ask me what’s up with Fr. Corapi. There hasn’t been much news since the Blacksheep Dog scheme to grift his fanbase fell apart and he disappeared from sight. After that, no longer presenting a source of danger to the flock as his cult of personality waned, I haven’t paid any attention. But people still write me now and then wondering. The closest thing to news is this little thingie that popped up, but it’s not really anything substantiated or even all that interesting. Mostly what it tells you is not anything about Corapi that you wouldn’t already surmise from his silence, but it does tell you a lot about Folk Hero worshipping conservative Catholics, in the comments. These reveal that there remains a small nucleus of worshippers of the Corapi cult who imagine that he was the Only Man on Earth who spoke The TRVTH, that The TRVTH consisted of regurgitating a few Catholic-flavored GOP Red Meat Culture War Talking Points, that Michael Voris has now taken up this mantle and is Elisha to Corapi’s Elijah, and that the basic pattern of battening on some Folk Hero to save us and lead us to the Light instead of becoming mature Catholics who learn to think with the Church and pay attention to the Magisterium (commonly known cafeteria conservativess as “the damn Librul bishops and gay cabal who persecute Michael Voris and plotted to destroy Fr. Corapi”) is alive and well in discernment-free conservative Catholic circles.

Folk Heroes and demagogues are the unpaid bills of our episcopacy’s failures over the past few decades. Their popularity is a clear sign that Catholics flat do not trust their bishops and are looking for somebody to keep them safe. It’s the same dynamic that attracts fatherless young men into gangs headed by strong charismatic figures. And it will–and has–resulted in the same sort of chaos as cults of personality form around figures who make up for their lack of knowledge (Voris) or integrity (Corapi) with certitude and command. The Church’s traditional solution to the human urge to have a cult of personality around a hero is to say, “Knock yourself out. But just be sure the object of your cult is dead and canonized.” In America, however, Catholicism drinks deep of the cult of celebrity and confuses that with the cult of the saints. Result: we keep canonizing Living Saints before it has really been established that they are saints and then we circle the wagons to defend them from Forces of Evil that often just turn out to be people saying, “Your Idol has feet of clay.”

Moral: Grow up. Stop worshipping Folk Heros. Learn to listen to the Church. And let those who adored and trusted in the Folk Hero pray for the poor soul they burdened with trust and adoration that should only have been placed in Jesus Christ.

UPDATE:  Welcome, Pewsitter Flying Monkeys!  Since the anonymous cowards at Pewsitter have ordered a little code red on me again I just thought you should know that you are in for some especially stiff competition in the Gettin’ Catty for Holy Faith competition this time.  So far, my absolute favorite Flying Monkey combox entry comes from “Sister Mary Pantsuit”, who writes, “’Great Article Mark!!’ – Me, Fr. Effeminate, & Satan”. That cracks me up good. I doubt any of you Pewsitter guys can top that.

Because nothing says “manly courage resisting the feminization of the Church” like anonymously posting as a nun.

What lack of knowledge? You just like to shoot off your mouth don’t you? You’re just jealous!

This article is disgusting. We who enjoyed Father Corapi’s lessons are not a member or participate in a CULT. He was honest and this is what parishoners need to here and not the hiding of important issues silence by higher ups. I miss his lessons and found them to be stimulating and encouraging by my starting back to mass and praying the Rosary. That, Sir is neither the acts of a CULT nor the following of a Folk Hero. Today we are concerned with Bullying in the schools and educators are working endlessly to find an answer. Guess what, here it is – all these disgusting blogs – may you remember Children Learn What They Live. Start setting examples in your daily lives as well as the priesthood.

    • tOM

Fr Corapi spoke in a charamatic way that enhances one belief of the Catholic church.
His style of speaking open the minds of catholics not cult worshipers. The Gospels were communicated by simplicity of teaching children. Children with open heart and mind to live with conviction the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank You Fr Corapi My spiritual mother wears combat boots.

    • Glenn Gabris

I too, had a deep respect for Father Corapi, and I am very upset by what has happenned to him. However, my advice is to read the life of Saint Padre Pio. Saint Pio went through a handful of persecutions by Church authorities. In it, he submitted to the Church in all things. And this, despite very poor health, and constant pain from the Stigmata.

The fact that Padre Pio walked away like he did tells you something. He should have gone back to SOLT and faced the charges even if they were false. I would encourage John Corapi to read the life of Saint Pio. I don’t have respect for him any more.

  • Captain America

This is silly. The whole “conservative” label is nonsense: you’re either Catholic and with the Church’s teachings or you’re stumbling off the bus. That hardly makes me “conservative” but the term Realistic is much better: I study church teachings and follow her guidance. Not conservative at all, sir!

At any rate, I, placid moderate, liked Corapi. It’s good to have a vibrant public speaker after so many watery vague poorly delivered homilies. Geez, Corapi at this point, with all his bucks, would do a world of good just endowing and creating an organization to teach good public speaking skills to parish priests!

I did pay for the tapes and to see him in person. I did find his talks inspiring. Do I think he was unjustly accused. I don’t know. I do pray for him-guilty or innocent. Not my call. I didn’t hear anything he said to go against the Church’s teaching. I also pay for Bishop Sheen’s tapes, Scott Hahn’s tapes and others. I love Father Barron’s tapes also. I follow the Church’s teaching. I do pray for all our priests. Christ came for us sinners. Thank God. Have a blessed day.

      • Ben Eicher

  • TJWeger

Fr. Corapi will rise again when the investigation and gag he is under is lifted. And Mark Shea and all the others will sadly just have to eat it. Meanwhile, get in all the cheap shots you can. The whole 3 person panel had just barely begun researching when this all went down. S.O.L.T. has been under a dark cloud for a while now given the other priest who tried to hire a hit man. Why on earth would I believe an unknown S.O.L.T. spokesman over Fr. Corapi and his years of good public service with support from the founder of S.O.L.T. and at least one other S.O.L.T. priest (his name escapes me)? Maybe Mark was on the 3 panel team of unnamed “experts” ratifying the accusations of an apparent “crazy” woman. Hurry, hurry. Git in yer licks before the truth comes out!

“Fight all error, but do it with good humour, patience, kindness, and love. Harshness will damage your own soul and spoil the best cause.” — Saint John of Kanty –
As privileged members of the Mystical Body of Christ, we must pray for our neighbours; especially those within the Church, who are straying, of whom Our Lord said (to St. Gertrude): “… the state of their souls causes Me unspeakable anxiety. My Heart has an INTENSE desire for their conversion.”

    “Misericordiam Volo” – Jesus

    • Mic

Love that quote from St. John of Kanty. It seems to me that the enemy of our souls greatly enjoys to stir us up, making us lose our peace and our focus on things that matter the most: loving God with our heart, mind and soul AND our neighbour as ourself. Let’s keep in mind that we are on the same team with the same goal of getting to heaven.

  • Brian

I must say I am surprised by the tone of the article regarding Fr. Corapi and painting those who respected his preaching with such a broad brush. It is entirely possible for one to appreciate preaching that is faithful to the Church even as the man who preached it may have stumbled himself.

“Certitude?” Would that all would faithfully speak the truth of the Church relying on the certitude of the Church, in season and out.

I get very testy over people who are not on the scene and do not know all the facts which means we are left with guessing, presuming and trying to separate it all out. Finally there is the tendency we all have to play Jesus as Judge and decide who and what John is and was. I know he taught a powerful witness message and did a lot of good. In our weakness is HIS strength. Anyone whose Faith rests on a bishop’s or the entire Episcopal Conference’s witness does not have Faith that is gift from “the Holy Spirit” not flesh and blood as Jesus said of Peter’s confession of Faith

    • mark77

The facts are…he got busted! Or are you calling the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity liars?

      • Angel

Just because they have a beautiful name for their society doesn’t mean they are faithful to the Catholic Church. There are all kinds of filth going on in different groups. For example, the LCWR organization and its heretical values. But Mr. Shea doesn’t like Voris because he is active and getting speaking engagements and Mr. Shea is only blogging and eating twinkies! Ha! Ha!
You deserve this, Mr.Shea, because you put down Voris for no reason!!!!!

  • Patrick Finnegan

The fact of the matter is Father Corapi was a good priest and a very gifted preacher who brought many souls to Christ. This can never be overlooked. I myself owe Fr. Corapi alot of gratitude and thanks. It was his loud and booming voice that I heard one night at my parents home that helped bring me back into the church and become interested in my faith again. I considered myself Father’s biggest fan but do not see myself a Corapi cult follower. It was the message he carried and how he communicated the message. As soon as he went against the Church though I knew he had gone astray even though I did not want to admit it. My dad had said early on after his fame spread that he should not be living away from his order. This is a warning sign that should not have been overlooked. My first thought was I should have prayed for him more as we all should do. If not we no better than anybody else. If we pray for anyone it should be for our priests as they are under attack everyday. We need good priests to help carry the message and wake people up in the pews as we are all starved for truth. We need more priests like Father Corapi. I pray for his conversion.

  • mark77

He was CEO of the company that made his DVD’s. Was *that* allowed by his religious order? He’s been conning us for years.

    • Deoacveritatimyfaithsustainsm

Yes he conned many, and many of us have tried to sound the alert and tell people about Corapi but many people attacked us!!!
Corapi is dangerous for the souls of people and people should do well if they brake any material from Corapi and throw away any DVD’S OR TALKS Corapi gave during his ministry, so that others don’t get that material in their hands.
Deceivers will always be deceivers and it is the obligation of every Catholic not to contribute to their deception.

  • mark77

brother-in-law’s parents saw Corapi speak in Arizona a few years ago and they asked him if they could make copies of his DVD’s to give to their friends, and Corapi emphatically said, “No, they should pay for it themselves.”
LOL! Corapi, Profit-centred church (Catholic division).

  • Green Grow the Lilacs

Is this the same Mark Shea who does the marvelous intelligent commentary on Ave Maria Radio? I can hardly believe from your cruel, sardonic words aimed at fellow Catholics, you are the Mark Shea I admired. I was one of those Catholics who appreciated Fr. Corapi’s Catechism series and Church missions. He brought people who were dear to me back to confession. Who are you to judge him?

    • Pete

I agree completely. Athough Father Corapi apparently strayed recently, he is still a priest and deserving of our prayers. Your uncharitable comments are uncalled for on a Catholic Website. Simply stating that people ought to ultimately follow Church Doctrine and the teachings of the Saints and be careful about “idolizing” any one person (still living) – would have been enough. Any of the faithful can be lead astray (including you), but they are still deserving of our prayers. Father Corapi was responsible for many a person’s conversion and it is tough to see someone who many taught the Truth for many years come to this kind of an end. To belittle those who respected/followed him (and whose lives were made better because of it) and Father Corapi is horrible. As St. Augustine said “There is no sin or crime committed by another which I myself am not capable of committing through my weakness; and if I have not committed it, it is because God, in his mercy, has not allowed me to and has preserved me in good.”

      • Say No To The Wolf

Mark hasn’t belittled anyone who FOLLOWED Corapi before he was found GUILTY of > UNPRIESTLY BEHAVIOR > AND HAS BEEN FOUND UNFIT TO MINISTER > Those who continue to accuse the CHURCH / S.O.L.T. / BISHOPS of wrong doings >AND > those still following a fallen priest > calling him a LIVING SAINT are > IDOL WORSHIPPING THE MAN

Whats really disturbing > Corapi himself commiting such a discusting mess > the guy knows he did everything he was accused of and found guily of > he knows the truth

Stop making excusses for the man > There isn’t ANYTHING o.k. ABOUT WHAT HE DID

  • Ed Silvia

Fr. Corapi’s Catechism series was unparalleled but so were the DVD prices he charged. He’s fallen from grace now but by virtue of God’s greatest attribute he will rise. Do a good deed in secret, offer it to Our Lady, ask her to take it to Our Father on behalf of Fr. Corapi. Its what we do.

  • Mark G.

    Great Article Mark!!!

I used to wonder what was wrong with me when everybody around me was fawning all over Fr. Corapi and I couldn’t get past his inconsistencies. Such a shame, for if he did indeed practiced what he preached all of the proclamations of a “living saint” would have been true, but I guess that goes for all of us. I hope that wherever he is, he has made peace with the Church and with his failings.

  • Bob G

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

  • Phillip C

I’ve seen much corruption in the Catholic church over the years and still today. Why are not the “LEADERS” weather it be SOLT or any other diocese addressing any of these? Because the high priest in the “Church” sees themselves as the scribes and pharisees back in the time of Jesus Christ “Holy-er than thou” and if you do not believe me then why is there chairs in the place in the middle of the alters in most churches as to were the Tabernacle is to be and ordered to be by the Pope? They love finding anyone that is holy and destroying them by crucifying spiritually just as the Jews did to Jesus. So many see this hypocrisy of “holiness” and left the church and seek to find truth else were. How can we as Catholics call our self’s Christians and have a deep love for anyone and hate so much on the “sinner” are we more “holy” than another? Jesus himself forgave alot of sins and told us not to think that we are just, why than with this situation is it different? All we can do is pray for each other and offer sacrifice through the Holy mass in representation for our sins, I will pray for all of the hate in this blog that people have STOPS. The divine chaplet states “For the sake of His passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.” and and Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins AND those of the whole world. How many of us have read the bible and know how to live as Christians and are still not behaving as Christ calls us? Yet it is ok to judge? Can anyone say I have never not broke any of the 10 commandments and fell into sin? It all makes sense now as I read the book of the Apocalypse and relate the times to the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ, a quote from Sister Faustina to enlighten us of what I see… “I saw an Angel, the executor of God’s wrath… about to strike the earth.” We shall soon reap of what we shall sow, so be careful of what you sow.
    God bless you all.

In the Pieta Prayer Book there is a Criticism Of Priests Prayer
Our Lord’s revelations to Mutter Vogel

“One shoud NEVER atttack a priest, even when he’s in error. Rather, one should pray and do penance that I’ll grant him My grace again. He alone fully represents Me, even when he doesn’t live after My example!”(page 29, Mutter Vogel’s worldwide Love, St. Grignion Publishing House, Altoting, South Germany, June 29, 1929)

“When a priest falls, we should extend him a helping had THROUGH PRAYER AND NOT THROUGH ATTACKS! I myself will be his judge, NO ONE BUT I! Whoever voices judgment over a priest has voiced it over Me; child, never let a priest be atacked; take up his defense.” (Feast of Christ the King, 1937) “Child, never judge your confessor; rather, pray much for him and offer every Thursday, through the hands of My blessed Mother, Holy Communion (for him)” (June 6,1939) “Never again accept an out-of-the-way word about a priest, and speak no unkind word (about them) EVEN IF IT WERE TRUE! Every priest is My Vicar and My Heart will be sickened and insulted because of it! If you hear a judgment (against a priest) pray a Hail Mary.” (June 28, 1939)

“If you see a priest who celebrates the Holy Mass unworthily, then say nothing about him; rather, tell it to me alone! I stand beside Him on the altar! Oh pray much for my priests; that they’ll love purity above all; that they’ll celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with pure hands and heart. Certainly, the Holy Sacrifice is one and the same even when it’s celebrated by an unworthy priest, but the grace called down upon the people is not the same!” (Feb. 28, 1938)

  • Patty

One thing that was very clear during his sermons: Corapi was all about the I: “WELL I SAID, I THOUGHT, I THINK, I DID, I THIS, I THAT, MY MOTHER, MY CHILDHOOD, I, I, I…” Corapi and the “I”…

Fr. Corapi should have never been allowed to live apart from his religious order (S.O.L.T.). I mean, what were they thinking? He bought the house and all his toys long before this public debacle. Chastity, obedience and poverty? I’d like to see what dictionary his superiors were using. I mean “hello?” Living a Catholic Christian life is difficult even with the support and fellowship of like-minded believers. Isn’t the idea of religious communities supposed to be strength for the journey? Communal prayer, accountability, companionship? Ahhhh, but that word! There is so little accountability in the priesthood.

  • Jess

I have nothing but love and thankfulness to Father Corapi. I have no idea why some attack him with such malevolence. I can’t say I ever worshipped him but I found his talks inspirational and they helped to deepen my faith walk with Christ. Why anyone would expect him to be a perfect human being simply because he had powerful, Christ centered things to say I believe is short sighted and ignorant. We all fall short of the grace of God. So if perfection is a requirement before you can say anything about faith or morals or belief systems, then we all would be silent. I sympathize with any or all or his personal challenges understanding that I myself fall far short of grace and hope every day in God’s mercy and goodness to cover me and bring me ultimately back to His table. I am grateful for Father Corapi and hope only good things come to him. And honestly, I miss him.

I hope Fr. Corapi returns to Christ soon.
He was a very passionat speaker and some of his speeches are very good. Even Fr. Barron (before we knew about Corapi secret life) praised him in that respect.

Of course Fr. Corapi “talked the talk” but did not “walk the walk”, as people say.

This does not invalidate his sermons or speeches, but certanily his hypocricy has been of great scandal to many.

Of course there is still potential in Corapi I think… if he comes back to a good life that is. It’s up to him.

    @Say No To The Wolf

I think you have problems. I think you ought to stop worrying or obsessing about Corapi for a bit and start doing a self-diagnostic on your own system.

You bet I have a problem > THE CORAPI FANCLUB IDOL WORSHIPPERS > Corapi’s FanClub have learned well from their idol > Misleading good people

You might be fine with the fact > Corapi Talked the Talk because of the MONEY

If you are looking for those who obsess over Corapi > Just watch the link posted above > Vindication For Corapi > Seriously ?

Perhaps Corapi could use your advice > Self Diagnose / Come Clean / Apologize to those who have been affected by his mess

      BTW – I don’t recall ANYONE saying > Corapi’s Sermons/Speeches were not valid

Sheesh. Ever heard of using commas, semi-colons, and even space-marks instead of a “greater-than” sign?

        For example:

“Nope, I’m not the accuser! Rant? Nope, no ranting here, just the facts ma’am! BTW, why such disdain for Corapi’s accuser? We should be thanking her and her family; we should also pray for her and her family”

  • http://www.dominicanwitness.com Mr. Steve Graves, O.P.

“In the digital environment, too, where it is easy for heated and divisive voices to be raised and where sensationalism can at times prevail, we are called to attentive discernment.” Benedict XVI, 47th World Communications Day.

God has always used sinners in the cause of Salvation. From the original sinners of Adam and Eve, to the drunk Noah, to the murderer Moses, to the adulterer David, to the traitor Judas, to the hothead Peter, to the hedonists Francis and Ignatious, to Jim and Tammy Faye Baker, to Fr. Corapi, et al.

The story of salvation history is still being written and we don’t know the end of the story for the individual laborers, including Fr. Corapi.

I was frankly skeptical of Fr. Corapi’s testimonies. As a veteran especially, some things to me didn’t ring true. I was especially concerned about how often he used the word “I” in his homilies and the frequency in which he held himself up as an example. However, his teachings were orthodox and his pastoral advice normally solid. I listened frequently and I used his DVD’s to help form inquiring Catholics, despite my gut instinct. Besides, I didn’t want to judge without evidence.

Fr. Corapi’s DVDs now sit collecting dust but I can’t bring myself to throw them out because the messages are solid.

I pray for Fr. Corapi and all those posting here. I admit it took me some time to find the charity to pray for him but all here know we must be forgiving.

I respectfully remind all that every utterance made publicly should be done in charity, to avoid scandalizing those young believers or non-believers that might come here searching for truth, or to provide fodder for the critics who would say, “look how mean and confused are the Christians.”

Event in disagreement, our charity for each other and for those who have fallen publicly should be readily apparent to the reader.

Very well said. Let’s not add to the darkness and culture of death.

Well said indeed! We need more this tone. God bless.

This article is confusing. How did Fr. Corapi mislead? Did the content of his talks go against the Church? I never them do that. Please point out where he was leading people astray if that’s what you believe. I don’t find those who followed him part of a cult, but rather people who appreciated his talks. He was unique and refreshing in the way he presented the faith, and he helped many people come back to the church. I don’t recall the term “cult” being used before the charges against him were filed. My feeling is that judging my the silence that he fell big-time. I pray that wherever he is that he finds his way back Home. Peace.

    • Mark Shea

He lied about his military record. Big lies, not little ones. He was never a Green Beret, or in Special Forces, or in SF training. He never parachuted into Okefenokee swamp, was never in a helicopter accident in Panama, and never belonged to an SF class in which every member was killed in Vietnam. He is a fraud.

      • Anthony

That’s huge indeed and need to be addressed. But what about my question about his talks and church teaching?

Father Corapi never lied about his military records that was a rumor and there has been many innuendos about that. I never heard him state the things that people are saying he said with regard to his military history. I thought he was an excellent preacher ,My Husband who passed away learned much from Father Corapi who led many people I know back to the Faith. I have his series The Catechism Of The Catholic Church which was excellent. I wish him well we should pray for him not smear or gossip about him. It just seems that many of his detractors are very jealous and envious of him, and perhaps should look at their own sins.

        • Mark Shea

Father Corapi never lied about his military records.
Yes. He did. And the lies are documented.

  • http://www.childrenoftoday.org Alena Radtke Gabriel

What are you talking about? The feminist example is Our Blessed Mother. Mother Angelica best described what that is too me. Is this what you are talking about?

Father Corapi stood with the feminism of this Blessed Mother. I do not think she has left Father Corapi because she asks us to pray for all Shepards. Our Lady and Our Lord says, never should a man imitate and woman and never should a woman imitate a man. She says to women stay away from this world’s fashions. Only Satan guides away. There is a split feminism. Whose side are you on, those of you whose comments I do not understand?

    • Melora

I didn’t really know much about Fr. Corapi but you are correct that once a priest–forever a priest and Jesus expects everyone to respect His clergy–even if they do wrong or fall away. We don’t really know what happened to Corapi so we should all just pray for him during his time of need.

  • http://www.childrenoftoday.org Alena Radtke Gabriel

Typo. Never should a man imitate a woman and never should a woman imitate a man.

    How to pray this Devotion:
This is the Devotion to the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ as given by Our Lord and Our Lady and a multitude of angels and saints to a nearly illiterate Nigerian teenage boy, Barnabas Nwoye, in the village of Olo, Enugu State, Nigeria, from 1995-2003. Our Lord told young Barnabas this is the greatest devotion He has ever given the Church and the last one He will give in this age. This is the ark that will protect and bring the Holy Catholic Church, and the remnant faithjul and all those you love and pray for safely through the bitter trials of the coming chastisement and into the promised Era of Peace.

The devotion book shares An Apostolic Letter from Blessed Pope John XXIII, June 30, 1960 on promoting devotion to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also my understanding that this devotion is approved by my Archbishop, Timothy Dolan.

Regardless of how valid the facts presented in this article and some of the replies may be, there is a distinct lack of charity. Does this not put Mr. Shea (and some of the other respondents) in a position somewhat comparable to that of Fr. Corapi?

    2 Timothy – Chapter 3

1 You may be quite sure that in the last days there will be some difficult times.

    2 People will be self-centred and avaricious [IN OTHER WORDS NARCISSIST OR LOVERS OF THEMSELVES LIKE CORAPI], boastful, arrogant and rude; disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, irreligious;

    3 heartless and intractable; they will be slanderers, profligates, savages and enemies of everything that is good;

4 they will be treacherous and reckless and demented by pride, preferring their own pleasure to God.

5 They will keep up the outward appearance of religion but will have rejected the inner power of it. Keep away from people like that.

7 always seeking learning, but unable ever to come to knowledge of the truth.

8 Just as Jannes and Jambres defied Moses, so these men defy the truth, their minds corrupt and their faith spurious.

9 But they will not be able to go on much longer: their folly, like that of the other two, must become obvious to everybody.

I thought many of Corapi’s speeches were very good. He utilized Scripture well to teach moral lessons, however, I could never get people “following” him. That is just unusual for Catholics who can read the catechism themselves and go to the Sacraments. Indeed, the greater offenders against the Faith in my opinion are those who pretend to be Catholic but support abortion and gay marriage. These are people who have already lied to themselves and abandoned the catechism. As to Corapi—I assume he is in a monastery at this point, avoiding the public entirely. All good people should just offer some prayers for him.

  • FAM22

Just came across your website and I am a little confused. How is it you define a “conservative catholic” and what are these “GOP red meat culture war talking points” you refer to? Are we talking about Catholics who place the Magisterium’s teachings on intrinsically evil practices such as abortion, euthanasia, gay marriage and the like ahead of her more prudential teachings on social justice issues? If so, and you think these are political issues rather than teachings central to the Church’s mission, can you please explain?
