Sean Dailey informs me: “The new pope is an honorary board member of the Argentinean Chesterton Society.”

Seals the deal for me.

Incredible, seal the deal for me too.

Maybe THAT’s why he chose the name Franc(e)s.

  • Stu

    All fine and good.

But where does he stand on Belloc?

    • Mark S. (not for Shea)

As much as I agree with most of what Belloc wrote, his writing was a complete bore. I can read Chesterton into the wee hours of the morning. I can drink 8 cups of straight espresso, crack open a Belloc book, and be asleep in 2 pages.

‘Old Thunder’ a bore? The Path to Rome… ‘Lines to a Don’ and other poems… Characters of the Reformation… Essays of a Catholic (just google, ‘A Letter to Dean Inge’)… even his short little essay, ‘A Guide to Boring’, is hilarious but written in vain for Belloc was a lot of things: a bore was not one of them.

me too; it closes the deal.

get this: he’s on message, tomorrow’s St Patrick’s day and so he has a quick presser with the world’s pencils and presto we have “the trinity of beauty goodness and truth”
in the newspapers just in time to match all the green shamrocks we’re goin’ to see pasted everywhere!!!
Get the message out folks – here’s the absolutes (a la Peter Kreeft)
and the universals aka transcendentals ( a la Fr Spitzer S.J.)
(see Appendix evidence of the transmateriality of human beings)
Woah yeah! Hold on … its going to be a great ride!!

I like Father Brown. Does that count?

    • Jared

I’ve just started reading Chesterton (“St. Francis of Assisi”, appropriately enough), so I’m gonna say yes ;)

First I find out Pope Francis is a card carrying member of a Buenos Aires futbol club – San Lorenzo (Aragorn/Viggo Mortensen also supports them), and now this! Viva el Papa!
