Now we will elect a new chancellor, a strong chancellor:

Now we will elect a new chancellor, a strong chancellor: July 21, 2016

one who will not let our tragedy continue.

Well, the Trumpkins have played their part as Jar-Jar Binks and nominated Palpatine.  He has given his empty speech full of rage and hollow promises.

Most telling moment: the Obama-mocking Trumpkin chant of “YES YOU WILL!” with its unwitting testament to the fact that they look not to We, the People but to Trump the Strong Man to magically make all their wildest dreams come true.  These are people who chose Trump because they cannot have their first love, Vladimir Putin:

The Prophet Chesterton, as usual, called it:

If there is one fact we really can prove, from the history that we really do know, it is that despotism can be a development, often a late development and very often indeed the end of societies that have been highly democratic. A despotism may almost be defined as a tired democracy. As fatigue falls on a community, the citizens are less inclined for that eternal vigilance which has truly been called the price of liberty; and they prefer to arm only one single sentinel to watch the city while they sleep.

This is what the Religious Right and the anti-abortion-but-not-prolife movement is now wedded to. And he will destroy them, sucking them dry like a vampire as they spend all their time and energy defending every grotesque thing he does and giving them nothing in return. The last shreds of their credibility will be blasted atoms by this demagogue.

A reading from the prophet Jeremiah:

The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the LORD,
I remember the devotion of your youth,
your love as a bride,
how you followed me in the wilderness,
in a land not sown.
Israel was holy to the LORD,
the first fruits of his harvest.
All who ate of it became guilty;
evil came upon them,
says the LORD.”
Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel. Thus says the LORD:
“What wrong did your fathers find in me
that they went far from me,
and went after worthlessness,
and became worthless?
They did not say, ‘Where is the LORD
who brought us up from the land of Egypt,
who led us in the wilderness,
in a land of deserts and pits,
in a land of drought and deep darkness,
in a land that none passes through,
where no man dwells?’
And I brought you into a plentiful land
to enjoy its fruits and its good things.
But when you came in you defiled my land,
and made my heritage an abomination.
The priests did not say, ‘Where is the LORD?’
Those who handle the law did not know me;
the rulers transgressed against me;
the prophets prophesied by Baal,
and went after things that do not profit.

“Therefore I still contend with you,
says the LORD,
and with your children’s children I will contend.
For cross to the coasts of Cyprus and see,
or send to Kedar and examine with care;
see if there has been such a thing.
Has a nation changed its gods,
even though they are no gods?
But my people have changed their glory
for that which does not profit.
Be appalled, O heavens, at this,
be shocked, be utterly desolate,
says the LORD,
for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns,
that can hold no water. (Je 2:1–13).

It doesn’t have to be this way. We could just listen to the Church, embrace her whole teaching and stop selling our souls to these manipulative clowns. It’s not too late to do that.
