MacArthur impression. I think the Tea Partiers are drooling over the prospect of a McChrystal/Palin or Palin/McChrystal ticket. Doesn’t really matter. Just people who act as channels for all the inchoate grievances of a baffled and confused electorate who are as sheep without a shepherd in an American civilization run by a small, rich, and powerful elite of corporatists and pols that doesn’t much care about them, yet whom they continue to trust even as they rail against them. Someday the Tea Party’s pretend distrust will turn to real distrust. That’s when the societal glue will begin to fail. Right now, Tea Party types still are like children playing games. They shout “Obama is the Hitler Stalin antichrist!” but then cheer when he assumes the power to shoot anybody he likes after declaring them an enemy of the state, cuz it makes Tea Partiers and Talk Radio heads feel safe. They’re just playing. They’re not serious. It’s not surprising then, that they invest so much energy in the most unserious pol of our generation: Sarah Palin.

I also think, by the way, that such a ticket would terrify the GOP elders and guarantee an Obama win.
