Okay, let me get off my duff and go do some housework

Salaam Alaikum and hello all.I've spent much of the morning online, tidying up my e-mail addresses and my FB account, checking in at Help People Island on Second Life.  Right now I'm just about done with my computer work for the morning.  My computerized Adhan is telling me that it is time for the zhur prayer, so inshAllah as soon as I'm done here I'll nip off to make wudu' and then go pray.  There is a cute grey squirrel on my balcony enjoying a late breakfast of stale … [Read more...]

An Islamic advice website: www.IslamicAnswers.com

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahI spend a fair amount of time toodling around online.  I'm always looking for good websites.  Mostly I'm looking for Islamic stuff, but sometimes I do get distracted by websites featuring adorable cats or political cartoons....I had been to one site, zawaj.com, several times in the past, and had looked over their Q&A; companion site, formerly known as askbilqis.com and now known as IslamicAnswers.com.  It is not a fatwa … [Read more...]

From the ShoeBomber to the CrotchBomber….

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahIt seems like, just when things are settling down, along comes another "jihadi" willing to sacrifice his life, or at least his gonads, for the sake of Islam. As soon as I saw the breaking news coverage of the incident in the skies over Detroit, I knew that we would be in for weeks of wall-to-wall cable news coverage of the man, his motives, his training, and his choice of skivvies (boxers? briefs? Fruit of the Boom?). Indeed, every time I … [Read more...]

Got a writing gig, mashAllah

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahAs usual, I've neglected my poor blog and let it lie fallow for a long time. Amazing that nothing wrote itself in here while I was away. I've been pretty busy in real life, chasing kids, feeding hubby, doing all that wonderful domestic stuff that I detest, but, hey, can't let the kids run around naked!I've still been teaching in Second Life. I have the weekly sisters' halaqah, and while the numbers are small, the ladies are very interested … [Read more...]

Tuesday, Life Getting Back to Normal

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahToday is Tuesday. The daily routine consists of hubby leaving the house early for work and me sleeping right through, lol. Obviously I'm not in my routine of getting up to feed him. Alhamdulilalh, the baby did not wake up, or if she did I didn't hear her. I slept from about 11 pm to 8 this morning. That's going to have to change when Abdel Hamid starts school next week.Alhamdulillah, I feel a bit better today. The bleeding has subsided … [Read more...]

Health Care in America… Or Not

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahAs I write this, I'm having a miscarriage. Don't read of if you don't like the thought of blood, or if you don't want to hear about it. I don't want to hear about it and I'm experiencing it...I had a positive preg test in July. I was just getting over the flu, no idea if that had some effect. On the first of August I started spotting. Very light, brown, old blood, no gushing or anything. I have had four miscarriages previously, in … [Read more...]

Holiday Weekend Over, Business as Usual

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahIt's Tuesday morning and I've got most of a cup of coffee in me. Kids are fed, except Abdel Hamid. He can do the honors himself; today is a cereal day. The baby is at my feet. In her usual fashion, the moment I start typing she starts fussing, as if I haven't been holding her half the morning already. Yusef and Yasin are squabbling over cartoons. Yasin is sick. His fever has really knocked him down, poor guy. I'm out of the liquid … [Read more...]

Danger Danger – Husband in the Kitchen!

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahOkay, so today I worked. I usually go to the office on Sundays and do eBay, leaving the children in the care of Daddy. So far it has worked out okay. I come home to the same number of children that were there when I left and they all call me "Mommy". Usually I'm home around four or so, in time to make dinner. When they are with Daddy, they eat a lot of cereal, apples, more cereal...Today, I went in late (hubby's fault), and consequently … [Read more...]

For my FB Sisters: A warning on fortune-telling

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimSalaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah"How Many Children Will You Have" "You Will Have Three Girls""What Will Your Future Husband Look Like?" "Cute""Will Your Next Baby Be a Girl or a Boy?" "Congratulations... It's a Girl!"Are these "harmless" Facebook quizzes, or statements of disbelief? I see these quizzes from people on my friends' list at least several times a day. It always makes me stop and think. You are taking a quiz that purports to tell you something about your … [Read more...]

Lo-Tech Coffee

Bismillahi Rahmani RahimOkay, when I got married I was not a coffee drinker. I would have the occasional - no, NOT Starbucks - the occasional 7-11 coffee if I was taking a road trip, but other than that I would drink water or a soda. Marriage and children tend to sap your energy, and eventually I got a coffee maker. I corrupted my husband, too. He went from being a traditional Egyptian tea-drinker to a "I can't leave the house in the morning without my cup of joe" guy. I take breaks from … [Read more...]
