Meet the President They Said …

This was Pope Francis’ tweet a couple of days after meeting President Obama. I wonder if there’s any connection?

We live in a society that leaves no room for God; day by day this numbs our hearts.

It turns out, that the Pope backed the US Bishops in his discussions with our president. Hopefully, something got through.

That picture is both hilarious and sad. There’s no great reason for hope on the human plane, but God is a worker of miracles. Perhaps the Holy Father’s words will lodge in the president’s soul in spite of his apparent ability to let criticism and concerns roll off like water off a duck’s oiled feathers. Not holding my breath, but something to pray for.

I would guess that the president probably enjoyed meeting the Red Sox yesterday more than meeting the pope. From the photo, Francis doesn’t exactly look thrilled to see Obama either. Other than both of them being world leaders, they really don’t have much in common.

I think you’re right. Such meetings are often more about what’s expected of the leaders than that either one WANTS to talk to the other. I was looking at the cameras flashing during the video, and all that during their talk, and thought “how could anyone even have an honest conversation when everything you say, every time you scratch your cheek or grimace because of some physical twinge of discomfort, someone is recording it and the world is going to read something into it?” But, they are expected to meet, so they do. :-/

What on earth has John Kerry done to his face? He looks utterly bizarre – kind of like this guy:

      Odo! :-D

      He looks like a muppet.

I doubt it. No US President has ever listened to a mere Pope.

I know this is a late addition, but reading it I thought it might be of interest to some other folks. I was especially interested in the last “page,” re: the tack of Satan shifting from the last century to this one. It makes me respect Francis even more as the right man to sit in Peter’s place at this time. :)
