President Trump is welching on the deal.

In a move that should surprise no one, President Trump is now claiming that he never promised to donate $1,000,000 to a charity of Senator Elizabeth Warren’s choosing if she took a DNA test and it showed she had Native American ancestry. He’s lying, and cheating on the deal, as usual.

His history is littered with such bait and switch behavior, including an entire pretend “Trump University” that he used to cheat a good number of people who don’t have a lot out of their hard-earned cash. This particular bit of I-never-said-what-I-said-and-even-if-I-did-I-didn’t-mean-it is classic Trump, doing his best PT Barnum, feeding raw meat to his credulous, trash-loving followers.

His latest move is to latch onto a statement from the Cherokee Nation, which said that DNA tests are “useless” so far as getting onto tribal rolls are concerned. This is true. Tribal rolls are determined by whether or not a person’s ancestor signed onto the rolls well over a hundred years ago.

The Cherokee’s statement has nothing do with the validity of the test itself. I think they were just trying to close the gate before they got swamped with people wanting on the rolls based on these tests.

I imagine that President Trump knows this, but he’s forging ahead with more lies and name-calling, because that’s what he is: a verbally abusive liar.  That’s what he is, and that’s what he does. I have no doubt that his massive base of hard-core followers will manage to track right behind him on this. Their fixed determination to believe anything he says, even if they have to change what they claim to believe several times a day, is historic.

From The Hill:

President Trump on Monday denied that he offered Sen. Elizabeth Warren(D-Mass.) $1 million to take a test proving her Native American heritage, even though he did just that.

Trump spoke after Warren responded to the president’s challenge and released the results of a DNA test showing she has a distant Native ancestor.

“I didn’t say that. You’d better read it again,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked about his $1 million offer.

Responding to a question about Warren’s test, Trump said, “Who cares?”

During a campaign rally on July 5, Trump taunted Warren for her claims of Native American ancestry, a staple of his campaign stump speeches.

“I will give you a million dollars, to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian,” Trump said at the time. “I have a feeling she will say ‘no.’ “

Note: This video has one crude expression in it that would normally make me pass on referencing it. I decided to go ahead and link to it because the rest of it is so apt.
