Emotional Tone and Awareness

Have you ever considered how much better your judgment is when you are feeling great than when you are down or pissed off and freaked out? In Scientology there is a scale called the emotional tone scale. There is an excellent video of this on the Scientology website and in the Scientology YouTube channel. This tone scale not only monitors how you feel it also influences how you think, how you act, and how aware you are. It also has everything to do with how well you communicate with … [Read more...]

What are we Worth in a Techno-Space Society?

Ever get the idea that you are just a cog in the wheels of some uncaring, unfeeling machine?  Even if you are an educator, a researcher or a journalist do you ever sense that all your understanding, your wisdom or your knowledge is discounted, cast aside made to seem unimportant. In a chapter in Scientology: A New Slant on Life L. Ron Hubbard wrote: “A workman is not just a workman. A laborer is not just a laborer.  An office worker is not just an office worker.  They are living, … [Read more...]

Personal Integrity

One of my favorite essays by L. Ron Hubbard is titled “Personal Integrity,” and it was this one aspect of the religious beliefs that first endeared me to this religion and made Scientology so friendly and welcoming to my own temperament and personal belief system when I first encountered the subject. The entire premise of personal integrity is summed up by Mr. Hubbard in the first paragraph of the essay:  “What is true for you is what you have observed yourself. And when you lose that, … [Read more...]

Who Was L. Ron Hubbard

A simple posting does very little justice to this question.  And the best way to know the answer to it is to share some time with him, listening to one of more than 2,000 recorded lectures he took care to record to preserve his research and made the data available to everyone. But this brief video profile is also a good way to begin to get to know what motivated the man to do what he did. … [Read more...]

Scientology: How We Help

We live in a world of bizarre contrasts--mega-billionaires living miles from others who are dying of starvation. The first words of this Scientology video, "Why We Help" always gets to me: "Ever five seconds a child dies of starvation." I believe there is not question that we have the technology to end famine and feed every person on this planet.  Why do we not use it for the good?  It may be a philosophical question to you or I, sitting in front of a monitor reading our favorite blogs.  … [Read more...]

What is The Best Way to Understand Scientology?

The best way to understand Scientology is by reading Scientology books or listening to one or more recorded lectures by L. Ron Hubbard, readily available at any lending library or through the publisher—New Era Publications for Europe and Bridge Publications for the Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. For those seeking information on the spiritual beliefs of Scientology and looking for a simple overview on the subject, Scientology: A New Slant on Life is an excellent … [Read more...]

What Does Happiness Have to Do with Religion?

In Scientology: a New Slant on Life, L. Ron Hubbard poses the question “Is it possible to be happy?” I believe that question is even more pertinent today that it was some fifty years ago when he penned most of the essays that appear in this book. A 2009 article in USA Today reflected on that estimate that some 10% of Americans — or 27 million people — were taking antidepressants in 2005, twice the number as in 1996. This doesn’t count how many people drink or smoke weed to … [Read more...]

Is There a Relationship Between Emotional Tone and Spiritual Health and Vitality?

One tool drawn from the body of Scientology and commonly used in everyday life is the Emotional Tone Scale. Codified from many, many hours of exhaustive testing and observation, the Tone Scale plots emotions in an exact ascending or descending sequence. Until Mr. Hubbard’s examination of this matter, emotions were something we all suffered or enjoyed, but never fully understood. Have you ever attempted to raise the spirits of someone mourning a recent loss with a cheerful word? The … [Read more...]

Preserving the Authenticity of my Religion

I personally have quite a bit of respect for all great religions of the world.  I think that by and large, their founders and original proponents were quite enlightened, and had some fairly star-high goals for man – both in terms of morality and enhancing mankind’s ability to interact with one another, as well as high goals for mankind’s inherent spirituality. HEAR-SAY OR HERESY? There’s been an impediment that (I would say) every religion has had to deal with, however, and that is with … [Read more...]

What is the Sea Organization (Sea Org)

According to the book Introduction to Scientology Ethics the Sea Organization is: A fraternal religious order consisting of Scientologists who have pledged themselves to eternal service to Scientology and achieving the goals and purpose of the religion.  The Sea Organization derives its name from its beginnings in 1967 when L. Ron Hubbard, having retired from his position as Executive Director in 1966, set to sea with a handful of veteran Scientologists to continue his research into the upper … [Read more...]
