Takin’ it to the streets

Takin’ it to the streets August 24, 2012

Following after the theme of last week’s β€œdriving” songs, here’s the word on the street.

I know this is where the sidewalk ends …

β€œ59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy),” Simon and Garfunkel
β€œAccidently Kelly Street,” Frente
β€œAcross 110th Street,” Bobby Womack
β€œAlphabet Street,” Prince
β€œFannin Street,” Tom Waits
β€œIn the Streets of Boston,” Dropkick Murphys
β€œJoey’s on the Street Again,” Boomtown Rats
β€œKillermont Street,” Aztec Camera
β€œMoon Over Bourbon Street,” Sting
β€œOn Hyndford Street,” Van Morrison
β€œOn My Street,” Hoodoo Gurus
β€œPapa Dance on Olvera Street,” Terry Taylor
β€œPositively Fourth Street,” Billy Bragg
β€œStreet Spirit (Fade Out),” Radiohead
β€œStreets of Baltimore,” Gram Parsons
β€œStreets of Baltimore,” The Little Willies
β€œStreets of Rome,” Rick Elias
β€œSullivan Street,” Counting Crows
β€œTakin’ It to the Streets,” The Doobie Brothers
β€œThese Streets,” Paolo Nutini
β€œWalking Down Your Street,” The Bangles
β€œWhere the Streets Have No Name,” U2
β€œYazoo Street Scandal,” The Band

That list was already way too long, so I’ve filtered out the Springsteen as a separate list:

β€œBackstreets”
β€œDoes This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?”
β€œThe E Street Shuffle”
β€œIncident on 57th Street”
β€œRacing in the Street”
β€œRacing in the Street” (Townes Van Zandt)
β€œStreets of Fire”
β€œStreets of Philadelphia”

The β€œE Street Shuffle” there is Bruce and his band playing along with The Roots in Denmark. The Roots seem to be able to sit in with anyone on any song, anywhere. The last time I saw them live was in a Germantown schoolyard, as the opening act for President Obama. I really hope to get to see that same tour next year.
