Oops! CoverGirl’s cover boy gets in hot water over insensitive Africa tweet February 17, 2017

Do you remember last year when CoverGirl chose a male for its cover? Makeup artist James Charles, who’s only seventeen, was suddenly the face of tolerance.  But a lot has happened since then.  This month, the kid went on a school trip to Africa.

First, who gets to go to Africa on a field trip?  We always had to go to a museum or something.

Second, he should’ve bought wi-fi, so he’d know that this tweet had gone viral:

Truth Revolt has the rest of the story:

Wisely, he deleted the tweet before taking off on his long journey.  When he arrived in Africa, however, he realized his tweet did not die as he’d hoped. As soon as he was in the air, the screenshotted Tweet had taken on a life of its own; people expressed disgust at his inaccurate and fear-inducing message.  (By the way, James, the World Health Organization declared Africa as clear from the virus as of 2016, so breathe easy.)  People said he should be removed as spokesperson, others said he was a racist who didn’t recognize his privilege.   Most agreed his reduction of an entire continent to the Ebola virus was probably not the right thing to do.

Pop some popcorn, because nothing is more entertaining than watching liberals shame each other for not being sensitive enough.

James tried to make it all better by saying he was sorry:

I am extremely sorry. Regardless of my intentions, words have consequences. I take full responsibility and will learn and do better.

Turns out, that didn’t help his cause either.  That’s when he decided to be a bit more candid:

So, when James said he knew very little about “the country” of Africa, he wasn’t kidding.  Soon, he was apologizing for that slip-up as well.  I don’t know about you, but this seems like a lot of hot air over nothing.  However, it does show that the “peace and diversity” crowd is not as pure as they hope we think they are.

CoverGirl, your cover is blown. James, you should probably stop hiding behind your makeup and show a little humility.  It goes a long way.

Maybe not all the way to the “country” of Africa, but almost.
