"O Eve" author passes

Some may recall the beautiful image of Eve and the pregnant Mary which illustrated a poem I shared here. The author of the poem, a gifted Cistercian nun named Sr. Columba Guare, has reached her culmination and now understands much more than the rest of us currently can. RIP, Sr. Columba.

Oh, I’m sorry about that, for our sakes anyway. I saved that artwork on my computer and look at it from time to time. We were lucky to have her for as long as we did.

Thanks for sharing her work with us.

God grant her rest. What a beautiful picture and poem. Do you know if there’s any chance the lovely nuns would be selling copies of that card? I would love to have the poem and picture to frame.

[Melanie, I am sure you could write and ask them. I bet you would not be the first to wonder about it. -admin]

Thank you for posting this. The experience of setting Sr. Columba’s words to music and subsequently developing a close friendship with her, I count as a major element in drawing me back home to the true Church. My wife wound up converting, too.

The artist whose drawing originally inspired Sr. Columba’s poem, Sr. Grace Remington, is another member of the community Our Lady of the Mississippi Abbey. I’m pretty sure they have more cards for sale. That image will grace the cover of the choral score when it is published in December.
