when home remedies go horribly wrong…

… speaking from my own personal experience, nurses and doctors are horrible about seeking medical attention when they are feeling ill. I usually won’t make a doctor’s appointment unless I am bleeding from the eyes and the entire left side of my body is numb. Most often I self medicate with whatever OTC drug or left over prescription pill is sitting around the house. Sometimes I will even get a little crazy and try voodoo, more commonly referred to as Eastern medicine or home remedies.

When I try the latter I always add a bit of Western medicine flare; i.e. doubling the dosage for immediate results because Western medicine is impatient like that.

For a sore throat and nasty cough that has persisted more than 3 days I decided to take a shot of whiskey with honey. Five minutes later I was still coughing; another shot. You get the gist.

So no, whiskey and honey do not work for coughs and sore throats unless your goal is being drunk with a cough and sore throat. In which case, you’re cured!

THIS is why I keep returning. Although, I get no joy from watching the flies feast on the illustrated version of your blotto self. Wait…are you blotto or a carrion HappyMeal in that illustration? I hope you are just blotto with some bad lighting!

My Dad, whose mother was born in Ireland, recommended whiskey and honey, followed by bed. He said you may still feel lousy but you won't care.

Voodoo works well for my alcoholism.

My favorite OTC sore throat treatment is a couple of OTC "plain" (the white chalky el-cheapo) aspirin (the other types of pain killers won't work) dissoled in hot water (about the temp used for salty water garbling). Drink slowly (yeah it tastes horrible!) making sure to cover the sore area with the solution. Aspirin is a natural topical analygesic & also reduces the swelling. Don't drink anything else for about 30 minutes after treatment. If you use this solution sparingly (like a swallow or 2 or as a gargle) you should be able to do this while taking other medications (although if you're on blood thinners or other medications be sure to consult with your favorite medical expert).

That was my Polish Babcies remedy. Only she'd cook up a batch of Whiskey with Rock Candy, lemon and then a touch of honey. No I didn't develop a drinking problem as an adult, it just put me off whiskey.Prayers for a quick recovery.

My remedy for a sore throat is freshly squeezed lemon and honey. 50/50. Not as fun as the whiskey.
