… this weekend I retired my smart phone, the same phone that went all stupid-o in Rome. It was traded in for a regular talk and text phone with a limited call plan. About the only fancy thing it does is takes photos. No games. No emails. No Facebook or Twitter. No fun apps that tell me movie times, how far I walked, or where the nearest ABC store is.

And I’m totally lost! I’m the only commuter on the bus actually reading a book! How archaic. I just sit there and scowl at them, all smug, with their faces cast down on their fanciful iPhones listening to Pandora and reading the news on their tablets. Bastards.

But it’s all for a good cause. Every cent I don’t spend on gadgets and toys is a penny that goes into the Camino Jar. It’s quite satisfying actually, saving for a specific cause. It’s turned being poor and frugal into a little game…

… the game where I asked my friends if I can hold and caress their Androids. Just for old time’s sake.

Got ya beat. I still use a flip-phone which rarely gets turned on, doesn't close properly anymore, doesn't text, and doesn't take pictures. Half the time I forget that I even own it.If I ever decide to text I've asked hubby to slice off my fingers.

Yay! Another human who doesn't have a smart phone! People are all like "Are you on words with friends?" and I'm all "yeah. it's called me saying stuff to you on facebook from the comfort of my caveman laptop BECAUSE I AM RETRO LIKE THAT." Sigh. I try so hard to like being poor, but sometimes it's a real pain… ;)
